For thiee days there has been one con
tinual grind of examinations, fatuity and
heard meetings and prelimiaary meetings.

increase. Last year the enrollment ex
ceeded expectations by a considerable
number and the officers of the college
have been "booming" it with unabated
zeal during the entire summer. Especially

The theological department opened yes
terday under auspicious circumstances.
The Mireet Kaalway.
The track has been completed by Supt.
Scbnitger on the bridge line on the east
side of the viaduct, and Electrical Engi
neer Fredericks has put the overhead
wire in ss neat and substantial shape as
if it ware a permanent work.
The electric motors en the two Rock
Island and Moliae lines are being provid
ed with rawhide pinion wheels, which not
only contribute quiet and ease in the run
ning of the ears, but are believed to be
more durable than the brass and steel
pinions heretofore used.
The signs have been painted for the
electric cars on the Milan road, and will
be put np in a day or two. They are the
same in design as thus on the other cars
of the syndicate system. There is a
sign, "Rock Island & Mdan," on each
side, with a little sign, "Watch Tower,"
over them, while on the extreme top ends
are tbe signs. Black Hawk," with the
"Bock Island" and "Milan" on the ends
of the hoods.
The Old Mettlra.
The afternoen programme of the Old
Settlers' picnic at the Rodman place con
sist ;d of several addresses which were in
terspersed with music aad a general
social time. A large Dumber who had
not been present in tbe morning were
there and the audience listened with in
terest to an address bv JudaeE. J. Searle,
after whieh A. M. Ilubbard. of Moline, re
sponded to the toast "the Old Settlers
who have passed away." Then came
"the descendants of tbe O'.d Settlers who
will take their places," by M. J. McEniry,
of Moline, who waa fotlowed by Hon. W.
W. Warner, of Warner Station, who
responded to "Pioneer Days," which con
cluded the afternoon programme.
