THE A1LMIGHTY DOLLAR
Is dominant in everything, but money is not all
that you have to think of when you are ordering
FURNITURE AND CARPETS.
Spend your money blindly and nothing but good
luck will give you your moneys' worth; spend it
intelligently and you will get your almighty dol
lar back again. Does not style count for some
thing, and durability for something more? If
you do not get both of these, what sort of an in
vestment are you making? Whether you or
they be big or little, you will do justice to your
dollar and justice to your judgment. If you want
a Bed Room Suit or an Ingrain or a Brussells
Carpet, Chenille Draperies, Curtains or Shades,
a Cook or Heating Stove, a Side Board, Ward
Robe, Extension or Parlor Table, a Parlor Suit,
Lounge or Couch, we can lit you out in any de

The Twin city joint Columbian cele
bratlon committee had a pleasant and
interesting meeting at the nicely ap
pointed rooms of the Molina Business
Men'e association Saturday night All
the members of the Rock Island commit
tee, and Capt. M. W. Lyon, except John
Crubaugh, who was out of the city, were
present. President Jacks in and Secre
tary Scarle, of the Rock Island Citizens'
Improvement association accompanied
the Rack Island committee. The Mo
tine committee had a full attendance of
members. The temporary officers, S. II.
Velie, chairman, and H. P. Simpson, sec
retary, were in their places. Reports of
progress were received from the sub
committees appointed at the last joint
meeting, and such committees were con
tinued for further work.
There was an extended dissuasion of
plans for the celebration and an unani
mous and enthusiastic expression in fa
Tor, not only of a grand Fourth of July
celebration, but of the inauguration at
that time of a permanent annual Twin
city feature.and preliminary steps looking
to such an end were taken.
The committee was obliged to cut its
meeting much shorter than was its de
sire ia ord-r that the Rock Island mem
bers might catch the last through car
from Moline at 10.07. and adjournment
was taken until Thursday evening. Oct. 15

That tbe Twin cities will celebrate the
Columbian Fourth of July '93. in a man
ner never before attempted in this part
ofthecountry i? now assured and what
is better still the enthusiasm will not die
away when the Fourth is over. There are
to be attractions lasting several days in
Tbratrlral St.t s.
Tonight at the Bnrtis opera house,
Davenport, will be presented the tx
crutiating funny comedv. "Skipped by
the Light of the Moon."
No actor of modern limes bs ever
attempted the roles cf Coquetin,
Fetcher and Booth and made them a
finished and pronounced success until
tbe accomplished actor Alexander
Salrint took them up and made
them as beautiful and touching as
art and genius could make them. Mr..
Salvini, who comes to the Burtis opera
house. Davenport, tomorrow night by
special engagement and will present
D'Enners great masterpiece, "Don
Caeses de Baz in," and his appearance
will be the fashionable event of tbe dra
matic season here. At his recent memor
ial engagement at the Auditorium theatre
in Chicago, the wealth and fashion of the
city did homage to the great actor and
scores of theatre parties, numbering as
high as 25 were made up by tbe elite.
Mr. Salvini comes with bis Boston and
Chicago company and the programme
will be the best of the season.
Wednesday night at Harper's theatre
will be presented McKee Rankin's emo
tional drama. "A Runaway Wife." The
play is one the best of its class, and the
company does itself credit in its intelligi
ble presentation. Miss Blanche Morti
mer, as Lady Alice, forcibly presents the
character of "The Runaway Wife," and
the costumes worn in the third and
fourth acts call forth great praise. An
drew Robson, ai Arthur Eastman, the
artist.admirably portrays tbe character of
that individual. H. S. Parker, as Dr.
Prescott, is a favorite with the audience.
The remainder of the company furnish a
strong support. The troupe is first-class
in every respect and merits success.
Richard Oolden's ' Old Jed" comedy
success will be presented at the Burtis
opera house Wednesday night.

The estimated gross earnings of the

for the month of September were 11,847,

President R. U Cable says the report
that the compiny is about to issue f 10,
000,000 debenture bonds is not correct.
So Doubt of That.
The Argus says Beaumont voted the
republican ticket last November. His
reception in Rock Island the previous
August was rather calculated to dampen
his democratic enthusiasm. Morning
The democrats cf Rock Island or of
this congressional district have never
evinced any particular liking for political

Union may be thanked for all such allu
