At last night's meeting of the city
council the time W68 mostly Fpent in hear
ing the reports of committees hnd the
heatfs of the different 'Vpartments and
the mayor's annual message. AH. Het
ter, of the bridge committee, reported
that the estimated cost of approaches,
railings, etc, to the Kodman bridges
would be about $150, and the report was
upon motion received. Aid. Thiesen, of
the license committee, brought in a re
port on petition of John Crowley and
others to allow the sand dealers to con
tinue using the levte between Eighteenth
and Nineteenth streets, recommending
that the prayer of the petitioners be
granted. Aid. Knox took the po
sition that the scanty levee room was
much more valuable to encourage the
landing of steamboats. Mr. Darling, one
of the sand dealers, was given permission
and explained that it would be almost im
possible to land at the foot of Twelfth
street in low water, this point being sug
gested as a good place for the landing of
boats. After some discussion the report
of the committee and its recommenda
tion was adopted.
The report of the street and
alley committee on grades, etc., in
Martha Rodman's addition was then
adopted, after which A'd. Tindtll, of the
waterworks committee, reported on th j
matter previously referred to the commit
tee in regard to the extension of water
mains and erection a reservoir in Sou h
Park and moved that it be referred to
the new council.
Aid. Evans, on behalf of the Twia-City
ball team, extended an invitation to the
mayor and incoming and retiring councils
to attend the opening game of the so ison,
and the invitation was acceptul by a ria
On Motion of Aid. Dan Corken a vote
of thanks was then tendered to the re
tiring members of the city council by a
rising vote. A recess of 10 minutes was
taeen, previous to the seating of the
new council in order to give a chance for
the selection of seats, and at the end of
that time the new council was seated.
Mayor MiConochie then read his an
nual address. A resolution was offered
by Aid. Knox providing that the super-.
intendent of waterworks be-ins ructed to
place meters in the C, U. t & P , C . L
& Q and R. I. & P. round' houses and
the plow works in order to ascertain the
proper consumption of water, and the
resolution was adopted.
