Strong Witnesses.
Among the thousands of testimonials
of cures by Dr. Miles' New Heart Care,
is that of Nathan Allisons, a well-known
citizen of Glen Rock, Pa , who for fears
naa enortness of breath, sleeplessness,
pain in left side, shoulders, smothering
spells, etc.; one bottle of Dr. Miles' New
Heart Cure and one box of Nerve and
Liver Pills, cured him. Peter Jaquet,
Salem, N J., is another witness, who for
twenty years suffered with heart disease,
was pronounced incurable by pbyf-icians,
death stared him in the face, could not
lie down for fear of smothering to death.
Immediately after using the New Cure
he felt better and could lie down and
sleep all night, and is now a well man .
The New Cure is sold, also free book, by

AN ANDALCSIAN HEN.
feathers are glossy black, ears white
and face red, as in the Minorca. Unlike
other Spar.ls'i chickens, the Andalusian
chicks are ha-dy and feather rapidly and
well.
The Andansians being handsome,
hardy birds and prolific layers of large,
white eggs, the question arises, "Why
is not this breed more popular?" The
Fanciers' Joirnal says: "Andalusians
should be more popular than they are,
being very handsome fowls and splendid
layers of large, white eggs. We consider
them fully equal to the Minorcas and
the size of egs they lay are considered
superior to the Leghorns."
H. S. Babcock says in The American
Agriculturist: "There is no doubt what
ever that the Andalusian is a capital
layer. As a table fowl for American mar
kets it is my personal opinion that the
Andalusian is not desirable. Its white
skin and blue shanks would' count
against it. The Andalusian has never
proved a popular fowl with fanciers,
and its uncertain ty in breeding to color
characteristics is probably the cause."
An English a ithor savs of this breed:
"As table fowls the Andalusians are
fairly good, though not to be classed
with the Dort ing. It is somewhat diffi
cult to get th flesh on the cockerels in
their early sts ges, while pullets are, as a
rule, exceedirgly plump."
The illustration here presented ap
peared originally in The Feathered
World, and gives a fair Idea of the good
reatures of the perfect Andalusian hen.

ience and tli s pigs can have their feed
whenever thtir appetite calls for it.
Will it not be more thoroughly digested
if eaten dry? The cross section in cut
shows the construction of self feeder and
renders explanation unnecessary.
In this connection it may not be out of
place to say teat the ltothamsted experi
ments on pig teeuing conducted many
years aso art still the liest on thn Knh-
ject. They sh wed that success depends
more on good judgment in selecting, or
on care in breeding the pigs intended to
fatten than tl e particular kind o food
given them. Those who buy pigs for
fattening should therefore try and get
Pekine Ducks.
Peking ducks are generally regarded
as one of the most profitable breeds,
being hardy, prolific and furnishing
white feather. These ducks are laro-B
and uniform in size. A fair yearly pro
duct oi eggs is about 120 for a duck in
in its second year, and 60 to 80 for n
yearling. The proportion of the sexes
in tne eany spring should be about one
drake to five or six ducks. Later in the
season, when many of the ducks are off
duty from a desire to incubate, thn nra-
portion ought to be about one drake to
ten ducks. This is an important point,
as the eggs wl be much more fertile if
a part of the t'rakes are removed. The
Peking has two defects its extreme tim
idity and its coarse voice, but to offset
these defects 1 he Peking not only pro
duces the first eggs of the season, but by
far the greatest number of any of the
breeds; it requires less water than other
ducks.
Helpful Bints.
Dig the poult ry yards over frequently;
, this will prevent much disease.
' Give young chicks hard boiled eggs
and skimmilk to drink until they are a
week old; after that oatmeal moistened
with milk, cracked wheat, boiled pota
toes mixed with meal, advises The Amer
ican Poultry Yard.
For a month before cows are due to

Two pounds a day of linseed meal makes
an excellent sul titute, according to The
Jersey Bulletin.
' Note the growing demand for good
bacon. Rangy lireeds, with tender, lean,
juicy meat, will fill the bill.
A horse has it small stomach and ac
tive digestion. The food therefore should
be of the highett nutritive quality, with
as little waste natter as may be.
