mittee was submitted by F. C Denfc-

At the adjourned meeting of the city
council last evening the time was mostly
devoted to a discussion of the different
new plate and of the question of the pass
ing of the Seventh ward sewer ordinance
Tis ordinance for the construction of the
sewer was finally passed una uimously .
Aid. Fvans introduced a resolution
providing tiiat the Weekly Rock Islander
be given the official printing also, and be
allofied the same as Thb Akgtjs end Uo
ion. Aid. Huesing moved "8 an amend
mendmect tuat the Volks Zsitung be
added, whereupon Aid. Guyer moved as
an amendment to the amendment that
the Swecdish organ be also added. Aid
Evans then remarked that he had ac
cepted no amendment, and Aid. Knox
movtd that the question be laid on the
table which was accordingly carried.
Aid. Schroeder presented a resolution
which was adopted requesting the Dav
enport & R ck Island street railway
company to place their tracks in differ
ent places in foe city in such shape that
they can be easily crossed by vehicles A
resolution was introduced by Aid.
Buesing and carried, instructing the city
attorney to appear at the trial of the ball
players set for next Friday, charging
them with a violation of the Sunday law .
It was also decided to meet some timj
during the next few days when the coun
cil would inspect the new steam roller.

the statutary provision of the s ate, ex
tending the elective franchise to women is
in progress to-day, and the fair sex are
taking a hand in it with a vengeance, in
one of the voting places discounting the
sterner and more experienced other side
of the house in electioneering energy.
Carriages have been busy all day and the
elec ion has probably called out the larg
est vote ever cast in the city at a school
election

votes had been cast at 3 o'clock, of which
more than half h d been cst by women.
Mrs. B G. Carlton was the first woman
to vote.
At the Third Fourth and Fifth ward
voting place 875 votes had been polled at

At the voting place of the Sixth and
Seventh wards 576 voi.es had been cast
