The work of thoroughly overhauling
and renovating the Kock Island house
which was begun by Negus Bros', some
weeks ago. is now nearlng completion
and a veritable transformation has taken
place. The office has been given a band
some appearance by skilled decorators
and paper hangers, and the room next
door.formerly occupied as a sample room,
bas been transformed into a handsome
reading room for the accommodation of
the guests, an archway having been cut
through into the main c f&ce. The sam
ple room bas been moved one door west
and the new location fitted out with one
of the most elaborate back bars and fix
tures in use in this vicinity. A.U the
rooms on the first floor are now occupied
and all being brilliantly lighted at night,
they present a very pretty appearance.
The extensive improvements have not
been confined to the lower floor alone,
but have been made all through the
house. The spacious dining room has
been newly papered and brightend with
the painter's brush, so that it has a doub
ly inviting effect. The halls and corridors
throughout have been treated in much the
same manner, while every room in the
house .has been given aa overhauling
and made fresh and bright by a liberal
expenditure for paper and paint. Many
of the furnishings in different parts of
the hotel have aleo been replaced and in
fact evety effort made to make the house
more homelike and agreeable to guests.
In the exterior appearance of the hole
there are some improvements to be made
also, in the way of repairs, such as tie
balcony, railing which was recently blown
down by the wind. Then the hotel will
be as good as new.
