Castoria Is the best remedy for children of
which I am acquainted. I hope the day is not
far distant when mothers will consider the real
1 iuterest of their children, and use Castoria in
' stead of the various quack nostrums which are
destroying their lored ones, by forcing opium,
' morphine, soothing syrup and other hurtful
apents down their throats, thereby sending
them to premature graves."

On the 23d ult. Martin Connell. of this
city, was taken into tbe county court and
adjudged insane, the jury attributing his
insanity to the excessive use of liquor.
He was ordered taken to tbe Jackson
ville insane asylum, but pending bis ad
mission there he was taken to Mercy hos
pital in Davenport. After being in the
care of the physicians there for 19 days
he was discharged as convalescent, and
fully restored to reason. He, therefore,
filed a J etition for a reheariDg and tbe
restoration of bis right to maoage his
property, 88 he is the possessor of a com
fortable little estate. A jury was im
panelled Saturday last, composed of Dr.
J. H. Comegys and Messrs. O. W. Gam
ble, Thomas Campbell, Judd Repine.
John Farner. George Ohlweiler, W. W.
Eggleston, George N. Hoover, J. A.
Johnston. J. L. Maslin, T. Jenkinson,
Christian Haberlah, and tbe case was
again tried. Tbe jury after bearing tbe
evidence, found that Mr. Connell had
been fully restored to reason, and was a
fit person to manage bis own property.
The court accordingly entered an order
restoring him to his property rights.
According to a St. Paul dispatch a
suit has been filled there in the United
States circuit court involving laiid valued
at $1,000,000. It is brought by Austin
T. JenkB, Samuel McClure, Robert M.
Coles and James Mulvey, of Stillwater,
Minn., against tbe. Mississippi River
Logging Co., of which Frederick Vvey
erbauser is the principal stockholder.
The land is what is known as soldiers'
homesteads in Mille, Laes county, and
comprises 25.0C0 acres of the finest pine
lands in Minnesota. The Weyerhauser
and several other Minnesota, Wisconsin
and Illinois lumber syndicates claim title
to tbe land in the Mille, Lacs district
through deeds executed by Thomas B
Walker, the Minneapolis lumber million
aire. The Stillwater men bringing suit
assert that Walker secured power of at
torney from the soldiers before the land
was entered, and before it was even sub
ject to entry. Those who know Fred
Weyerhauser are well persuided that be
will fight like a Trojan and a big contest

Mention has been made of the supposed
drowning near Portland, Ore., of Rev. J.
C. Read, Drother or the Rev. J. II. C.
Read of Moline, and of Rev. I. W.Read,
formerly of this city. A most remarka
ble stquel to this report is the fact that
on Sunday the gentleman named arrived
in Moline, entirely ignorant of his alleetd
death. It appears that Mr. Read, who
has been overworked until bis health was
badly impaired, had for some time
planned to come to ' Moline for a visit
and rest, and last week his mind be
came temporarily affected, and without
realizing what he was doing he left home.
Some clothing, which was wrongly iden
tified as his, was found on the banks of
tbe river, and tbe friends naturally
jumped at the conclusion that be was
drowned. On Saturday, however, te
came to himself, and made the rather
startling discovtry that he was on an
eastbound train some distance this aide
of Omaha, with a ticket for Moline in his
possession. Of course there was noth
ing to do but finish tbe trip, which he
