Unfortunate State of Affairs at
KEV. BLAKE SLY IS DISMISSED.
Cause of the Contention and the Attitude
or the Rival Factions Within the Congre
gational Chnwh Which Is in the Meantime
Closed The Former Pastor.
The town of Port Bjron which comes
to the front eer so often with a sensa
tion of some sort, is again being ruffled
with diesentiona from within and the
good people of the First Congregational
church are now tortly perplexed and
much annoyed at the unfortunate turn
that affairs hae taken in the church.
Up to three yeara ago the pulpit of
that church had been filled by Re. Ai
mer Harper for pephaps a dozen years
interest in church matter
hid been lagging for some time and the
pastor's salary had run down
to a scanty S400. Re
Harper became tired of laboring
amoDg his flock on this paltry salary, and
when the congregation talked of extend
ing a call to some younger minister ne
readily assented and re-ired from active
church wcrk. Rev. N. T. Blakesly ao
. . 11 and moved his
family to Port Byron entering actively
tirvrin hi chnrch work . A new interest
SDrane up at once, and in a short time
the congragation was one of the most
active in the vicinity. The pastor's
salary was increased to $900. and a num
ber of new members were taken into the
church. There were, however, a number
: ,v, .A.oroaitlni) who were not satis-
iu iuv v-vi.., -n
fled with the new pastor, and continually
talked of a.-kine Rev. Harper to again
accept the charge .
Things ran along in inis way uun.

feelings of the Harper faction toward Mr

was decided to see that he be not re-

were determined, however, that he should
not go and the result was that when the
meeticg was held and a vote taken it was
decided by a vote of 15 to 13 to not re
tain him. The Blakesly faction then be
came indignant and threatened to with
draw from the church altogether, saying
they would not contribute a cent toward
.nnthor nastor. and there the matter
Their relations are very badly strained
aad Rev. Biakebly is in the meantime go
ing every Sunday to Spring Villeja
where he occupies tne pulpit, and then
returns to Port Bjron. It is thought
the contention will be long and bitter, as
determined to be in
control, and in the meantime the church
is closed on Sundays.

The Best in the World.
Senator Henry C. Nelson, of New York,
On the 27th of February. 1883, I was
taken with a violent pain in the region of
the kidneys. I suffered such agony that
I could hardly stand up. As soon as
possible I applied two Alloock's Porons
Plasters one over each kidney, and laid
down In an hour, to my surprise and
delight, the pain bad vanished and I was
we.l. I wore the plasters for a day or
two as a precaution, and then removed
them. I have been using Allcock s for
ous Fibsters in my family for the last ten
years, and have always found them the
nuir.kest and best remedy for colds,
atraina and rheuma'ic affections. From
m v exm-rience I believe they are the best
plasters in the world."
I feel it my duty to say a few words in
regard to Ely s Cream Balm, and 1 Co so
entirely without solicitation. I have used
it more or less half a year, and have
foune it to be most admirab'e. I have
suffered from catarrh of the worst kind
ever since I was a little bov and I never
hoped for cure, but Cream Balm seems to
do even (bat. Many of my acquaintances
have used it with excellent results. O)1
