ndi turned ees3ion at 8 p. m., Mayor
McCocochie presiding, and ail the
Aid. Kennedy, from the street and al
ley ommittee, submitted the following
We, your 1 j:nt committee, to whom
was referred the profile of the proposed
storm drain extending from Twenty-fifth
street west to tbe Mississippi river would
report that we have carefully examined
the same, and we would recommend that
said route be adopted and that the city
attorney be instructed to proceed into
court for condemnation proceedings for a
strio of land of sufficient width for said
drain commencing at the west line of
Seventeenth street and ex onding aloDg
the entire route to the river.

further time for a definite report, which

cluding with a resolution to vacate a cer
tain part of Thirty-eighth street donated
by the Augustana College for widening

matter was also referred to the council as
a committee of tbe whole in their investi
gation, on motion of Aid. Schroeder.

the builuing of storm drain east of Sev
enteenth street to Twenty-fifth street as
per profile, by a special assessment. Mo

ommended that tbe city clerk invite bids
for remaining portion of the Seventh
ward sewer system not yet let by con
tract. Report receiyed and recommenda
Aid. Kennedy submitted an ordinance
establishing grades on Fifteenth, Six
toentb and E'ghtecath avenues and
Thirtysfourth. Thirty-fifth, Thirty-sixth,
and Thirty-seventh streets; also an ordi
nance establishing grades on Twelfth,
Thirteenth ttnd Fourteenth avenues and
Thirty-eight, Thirty-ninth. Fortieth,
Forty-first end Forty-second streets. Re
ferred to Plreet and alley committee.
Aid. Knox offered a resolution in
structing the superintendent of streets to
examine and see if one of .the unoccupied
nose houses cannot be so arranged to
bouse the city's steam roller and street
grader during tbe winter. Adopted.
An motion of Aid. Huesing the Mer
chants' Electric Light Co was instructed
to place the light located on Seventh
avenue and .Nineteenth street.
Alderman Bladel submitted certain
specifications for street improvements
with one course of brick, ere, and after
some modifications the same were referred
back to th committee.
Oa motion the council adjourned to
Friday next at 2 p.m.
