Last Tuesday Mr George Lidback re
ceived a telegram from bis home in Port
1-ind, Me., that his mother was seriously
ill and that he should come home im
mediately, in consequence of which he
left last Wednesday morning and will
not be back before nrxt spring.
Mrs. F. A. Lawson, for many years
matron of the college, died last Saturday
and was buried last Wt'dnesdty after
noon. The funeral took place in thi
First Lutheran church of Moline. Reci
tations were suspended in order to show
due reverence and honor to the departed
who bad been so closely connected with
the institution for many years
C. A. "Wendel returned from Chicago
yesterday where be bas been for about
two weeks under medical treatment.
Coasting on the hill east of the college
was exceptionally fine the first part ef
the week. Many availed themselves of
the opportunity for flue sliding, and
almost at all hours merry laughter could
be heard c iming from the coisters as
t'-ey glided swiftly down the MM.
Last night the L;ceum gave an enter
tainment in the chapel. The programme
