The Railroad Bmlnni During The
World's Fair Preparations In rrftres
Other Mention.
Tbe World's fair at Chicago the coming
season will in all probability be the big
gist thing for tbe railroads of the United
Slates tini has tvir occurred. Every
railroad entering Chicago bas made tbe
most comprehensive arrangements for its
share of tbe enormous business that will
be band ed and l11 connecting lines are
following the same example and the re
sult will no doubt be little less than per
fection in these di.ys of scientific rail
roading. Scarcely any emergency can
occur that has not been provided for and
guarded against.
Tanseng-er and freight Itusiness.
Nearly every conceivable scheme is bes
ing worked by Chicago parties to look
after the enormous rowds that will be in
tbe city and the getting them thera and
taking ttem away again will be one of
the most prominett features. All the
railroads will put ot additional facilities.
Tbe Rock Island it is understood will put
on at least four additional trains, while tbe
long promised Chic!. go tra'us on the C,
B.&Q. will undoubtedly come in the
spring in order to catch its share of the
ousinrss. in in 5 tretght service
it will also mh a decided rush
and the different companies are already
preparing for the exidus of their m.'.n to
the Worlds Fair city. After May 1
tbe Rick Island will pay its switchmen
40 cents an h iur in order to keep them
from going to Cuicago and U has alraad y
made a raise here, the night men at
present bein? piil 32 cents an hour
Next year will be the railroad stock
holders, time to smi e.
The Auiericnn Reaching Out.
The American Ex yr- ss compmy is stili
in it, so to speak, ail is hustling after
more territory. Since losing the Bur
libgton it bas closed a contract whereby
it will ma the Ii inols Central clear
through from Chicago to New Orleans.
The Southern Expr company bas run
the Central from Ca no down ever since
the War, and the new change will go into
effect in April. The American bas also
secured some of tie Missouri, Kansas
& Texas territory which it will also have
after April.
