The recent action of the C, Ji. I &
P. road in aain acquiring the use of
the vacant land around the present
cite of its round house has led many
to believe that the company contem
plates the tearing down of the pres
ent round house and the erection of
another one upon a different site in
order to facilitate switching and the
handling of incoming and outgoing
trains, t is understood that infor
mation has been given out by officials
high enough up to be in a position to
speak with knowledge that such a
move is not improbable. Another
reason for the change is said to be the
fact that it is desired to build the
new house on a more modern plan,
which will be to construct it semi
circular iti shape, and if this is done
two houses will in all probability be
built. Xo one seems to know just

A reporter for the Peoria Herald
lias been interviewing General Pas
senger Agent Kent of the J. S. E..
about the progress of the extension
to Koek Island. The Herald says:
General Passenger Agent Kent of
the Jacksonville .Southeastern was in
the city Saturday. He says that the
winter now almost over has been a
very hard one on al! railroads and
that the Jacksonville has suffered
with the rest of them. The new
branch to liock Island is going along
as well as could be expected and the
only delay is occasioned by the fact
that it had been very hard to do any
thing with the bridge at Havanna.
There are two steamboat loads of
material there, but the river has been
frozen over and it has been almost
impossible to do anything at all with
the bridge. It would take but a very
short while to get the track laid as
far as Canton when once the bridge
is in. He says that as soon as the
weather will permit the work will be
pushed for all it is worth. With the
coming of spring the road bed of the
old line will be improved us fast as
men and material can do it and in a
very short time the line will be as
good as anv in the state.
