company is determined to establish
a branch somewhere, but that he be
lieves Rock Island has not offered
what the company deems sufficient
Funeral services for the late
George B. Reed were held from the
late home of the deceased, in Dimick
block, at 4' o'clock this afternoon.

The Mayor Klt-ninens.
The firmness, of Mayor Medill in
making no deviation from his an
nounced course in the matter of ap
pointments has brought forth many
expressions of approbation in the
past two days, the new mayor hav
ing demonstrated that there is noth
ing of the vacilating, dodging-the-is-suc
nature about hiiu. Saying what
he means and doing' what he says,
Mavor Medill has won the confidence
of the people, and shown that he is
not the man to make concessions
when satistied that he is in the right.
Thomas NaulpauKh Dead.
John Cru'.iaugh received a dis
patch this afternoon from Mankato.
Minn., announcing the death of
Thomas Saulpaugh. a well known
former resident of this city. Deceased
was associated with the late E. P.
Reynolds in business for 21 years,
and from 1KS0-yo with Mr. ' Cru
baugh. He had hosts of friends
here, who will sincerely regrjt his
demise. The remains will be taken
to Minneapolis Friday for burial.
The patrol wagon brought down
another load of tramps from the
Rock Island yards today who were
holding a war dance around a keg of
beer. This is getting to be an every
dav occurrence ami illustrates very
forcibly the need of a stone pile.
William Jones, who was arrested
yesterday for burglary, was held in
bonds of $500 to the circuit court by
