Comnunci tig Friday. May in. the
Diamond Jo line will have a steamer
leaving St. Louis every Tuesdav and
Friday, at 4 j. m.. for St. Paul, the
boat leaving l.ock Island at 11 p. m.
on Sundays and Thursdays. Bouts
going south will leave Bock Island
at lo a. m. on Wednesdays and Sat
urdays. The Tri -City city electric springier
made its initial trip over the lines
this morning. It is nicely painted
and lettered, and does its work well,
throwing water clear to the curb.
Henry Dot lefts, for a long time a
motorman on the railway lines, has
resigned his position to take charge
of the new sprinkler.
The Pittsburg, the flagship of the
Diamond Jo line, will leave Dubuque
next Monday. She is painted and
fitted handsomer than any boat that
has been seen on the upper river be
fore, being provided with bath tubs
for every stateroom, electric lighting
throughout; in fact, is a model pas
senger packet in all respects.
Last Saturday was, despite the
stringency in money matters, one of
the best days for trade for the mer
chants throughout the city that has
been seen for a good many weeks.
Without an exception they agree that
trade was good in every line. Satur
day evening the streets presented the
animated appearance of a metropolis.
A rivalry exists between the divi
sions of the Davenport & Bock Island
railway company on the two sides of
the river as to the income each is ca
pable of making. Yesterday there
were unusual attractions on both
sides, and the day was taken as a
test, and the outcome was a winner
for the Bock Island side by a large
majority.
Frank H. MotTatt, of St. Louis, and
Miss Mary Irwin, of Denver. Col.,
were united in marriage by Kev. C.
K. Taylor, of the First Baptist church,
in the parlors of the Bock Island
house on Saturday evening. The
bride formerly resided at Hillsdale
and has many friends in this icinit y
who will wish the couple prosperity
and happiness through life. They
left vesterdav for St. Louis.

Bov. C. H. Mallarian, a native mis

and appreciative audience in the
First Methodist Episcopal church of
this city on the interesting sub

manifested a close knowledge of
the political and social affairs in
Turkov. while his numerous quota
tions from Bvron. and Emerson, and
Carl vie. and Voltaire, and Mon
tesiUeu convinced the audience that
the speaker was w ell acquainted with
both French and English literature,
a- well a- the American. Mr. Malla
