adopted a set of rules for the regula
tion of the aid department, similar
to those in vogue in other cities, and
some of the most important of which
are appended :
The captains of companies shall

shall require and enfort-e strict com

tions, and the orders that may lie is

They shall see that the apparatus,
horses and other property committed

readv for immediate use at all
times; that the building, furniture,
and iixt tires are kept neat and clean,
and that the personal habits of the
men are clean and wholesome. Thov
shall see that the npparat us is cleaned
as soon as possible aft cr exercise and
after each run. and that the mem
bers of the company stand the watch
re.uired. They shall also perform
their share of the house duties re
ijuired of the other members, shall
politely escort visitors and make
proper explanations, but not allow
habitual lounging in or about ijuar
ters. They shall visit and examine
all factories, warehouses, and other
large buildings within- their com
pany district in order to become
familiar w ith the:r construction, and
the location of all liatchwavs and
elevators: see if the entrances, exits,
halls and stairways are accessible,
and lerru the most expedient man
ner of attack in ease of lire. They
shall assume command at tires when
lirst to arrive, and exorcise control
and command until the arrivah-of the
chief or asMstant chief. Shall
promptly report all accidents that
occur in going to or returning from
a lire, or while exercising their
horses, giving the names, resilience,
or place of business of the persons bv
whom the facts can be proven; and
report all still alarm tires attended
by their company, immodiatelv on
returning to ijuartcrs from the same.
