Arrive Holtville 6:00 p. in. daily except Sunday i TWO MONTHS WILL COMPLETE FLUME Work Has Commenced on the Water way That Will Supply Nos. 6 and 8 With Water Work has commenced on the flume that will be the means of giving life again to the devasted districts cut off by the New riv er wash a year ago. General Manager H. T. Cory states that sixty days will see water flowing into No. 6 thru this flume. A large force of carpenters are now at work on the struc ture and the work will be push ed to the limit with all possible speed. The railroad is complet ed so that material could be de livered and the lumber is being placed on the ground by floating it from the railroad to the place of construction. Engineer Jack Carillo, in charge of the Southern Pacific construction forces here, has the grading work so far advanc ed that he could spai c 100 men last week without delaying the construction of the road. Herrmao Stays The California Development Company has a^ain shifted its forces. General Manager H. T. Cora, whose first love is railroad work, will henceforth be actively associated with Epes Randolph in his Arizona and Mexican ent erprises. He remains head of the C. D. company but the man agement will fall to K. D. Me- Pherrin, whose many friends will be pleased to learn, has been made . resident manager. Mr. McPherrin has been local coun sel for the company since the early part of this year and has made himselfi invaluable to the corporation. P. S. Herrmann, who has been assistant chief engineer, is now chief engineer. C. K. Clark and Thos. Hind, famous for their work on the Clarke- Hind dam, have both re signed, the former to become resident engineer of the coast division of the S. P. company and the latter goes with Mr. Randolph. E. H. Games is in charge of the river work, H, H. Grlswold has arrived from Yuma to take a position as purchasing agent. A new position, superintendent of the distributing system, has been created and a man with exceplonal qualifica tions Is being looked for to fill the place. Mr Cory left Tuesday fo; Tucson, his 'uture headquarters. Eugene Shaffer Dead The sudden death of Eugene E. Shaffer, county auditor of this county, comes as a shock to the Imperial valley. He died in San Diego Sunday night from a throat abcess. Mr. Shaffer was well known in this valley. He was in charge of the San Diego excursion here in May. His popularity, in San Diego was phenomenal. He had , been county auditor for seventeen years and was a friend to • very body, honest, capable' and chari table. His demise is a loss to the entire county that will take a long time to replace. Ice cream Is a food.
