It appears that Hon. 8. C. Vaughn, the
county commissioner from the southern
district, has tendered his resignation to
(ov. E. U. Ross, as he intends to remain
iu California fur an indefinite length of
time. Mr. Vaughn has given good satis
faction in the discharge of his duties,
and the people will rexret to hear of bis
action.
Territorial Auditor Trinidad Aland
ha notified County Clerk J. M. Luna
that the tcrritorsl hoard of equalization
has decided to place the value of cattle,
including yearlings.at ten dollars a bead,
and sheep at one dollar a head.
Confirmed laud grants are to be valued
at seventy-five cents per acre. As the
tax roll intbiseouuty Is already in the
bands of tbe collector, it is probably too
late to comply with the order making
the raise, which, is too much (luring
these bard times.
A TEOPLES CONVENTION.
Upon tbe suggestion of the supporters
generally of tbe people'r party through
out tbis county, a meeting s.i held yes
terday afternoon at the assessor's office,
for tbe purpose of issuing a call fur a
county convention to nominate a Peo
ple's ticket, regardless of race or politics.
A large number of well known citizens
attended, and amongst tbe tnost promi
nent from the outside participating were
Don Gabriel Pino, of ban Acasio, one of
the leading and most influential citizens
of tbe northern part of tbe county, and
Don Jose Oil y Marques, Justice of tbe
peace of tbe same precinct.
Upon motion of DonCaadelario (jarcia
the Hon. Jose Baca was made permanent
chairman, W. D. Burliogame, cashier of
the Bocorro County bank, was elected
permanent secretary, aud Don J. M.
Luna J 8no interpreter.
A call was issued for a people's con.
ventioo, to be held at Socorro, on Satur
day, tbe 29th day of September, 1868, at
(o'clock to tbo afternoon, at the court
beua, tbe precinct primarlos to be held

school building. The conditions aro
as follows :
The building io be two 6tories in
height. The lower floor to enntuin two
school rouinn, capable of uccninuiodat
ing at least sixty-four pupils each
with littUway and cloak rooms. The
inside of tbe second flour to he left
unfinished for the present. The cost
of said building (not including inside
of second floor) is not to exceed live
thousand dollars. The material of
walls to be fit one or brick, with stone
trimuiiugs. Tho price of plans and
specification!! to be attached to each,
und if fticetited to bo paid in school
bonds, except the successful competitor
in a non-resident of Socorro, in which
eate he will be paid iu cash. Rejected
plans nud speriUciitious to be returned

By virtue of authority vested in me
by law I, J. 8. Sniffen, mayor of the
city of Socorro.hereby give notice that
any and all persons owning or having
any dogs within the city limits t f the
city of Socorro, shall ultcr the llth
day of August, 18S8, securely confine
or muzzle the same, and to keep the
same so confined or nuuzled from the
said llth day of August until the first
day of October, 18H8. And nny d,
bitch or whelp so found ruuuing at
large within lbo oity limits of siid citv
as aforesaid, without being securely
muzzled, will be killed by the Marshal
or any police officer, snd Ihe owners
thereof dealt with according to law.
