1 Last Monday morning at about
8:30 o'clock, the mining camps of
I Parsons, in this county, was the
scene of one of the most terrible
1 accidents which has ever occured
in this region. Mrs. William Pro-
I theroc and her child three years
.old, were burned to death in their
home, which was destroyed with all
of its contents, by the explosion of
an oil can.
From all reports, tt seems that
Mrs. Protheroc must have been
starting a fire in the cook stove
with oil, using a five gallon can for
the purpose, when the oil ignited,
probably from some fire which re
mained in the stove and exploded
with terrific force.
( Mrs. Long and her daughter
heard the explosion, and seeing
the house in flames, tried to get to
Mrs. Protheroc and help her, find
ing this impossible, they at once
called the men from the mill, but
they were powerless to do anything
as the house was a mass of ffame
when they reached it,
A letter from Parsons states
that the stove was blown complete
ly to pieces and the remains of the
oil can also gave evidence of the
terrible force of the-explosion.
Mrs. Protheroc was 41 years
old, a native of Pennsylvania, and
leaves brothers and sisters in that
state, besides her husband, who is
a machinist in the employ of the
Eagle Mining and Development
Company, to mourn her sad death.
I, J. H. Chapman, do hereby state that
I am a resident householder of precinct

in forehead and white on tip of nose, and
that it is unbranded.
That 1 have made diligent inquiry
throughout the neighborhood of my
premises and precinct to ascertain the
ownership of said animal, but have been
unable to ascertain uch ownership, and I
do not know to whom it belongs.
