Bates sold some fat range cows to Charlie Mitchell, and they were fat too. Say, editor, I am sending you a clipping from the Furrow, which if you will publish, you Tucumcari fellows will maybe think a little more of the farmers when they come to town, even if their clothes are a little ragged and worn and one suspender is in evidence. From the figures in this will draw the idea that the nestor cuts some ice in this world's wealth. The clipping follows: ''To the Nation's production the farmers of the United States this year contribute six billion dollars. We hear much of the Standard Oil Company and its wealth, but our annual export not production but exports of cotton alone has a value four times as great as all the petroleum produced in the United States in a year. From the attention given disturbances in coal mining one might consider that coal is a very important production of this country. But year after year the farm products of the United States have on the farm a value more than thirteen times the value at the mine of all the coal dug in the United States. We have be come the greatest pig iron produc ing cojntry in the world. Yet each year the grain of one crop corn has a value five times greater than all the pig iron produced in this country. Why, the corn grown each year by the farmers of Illinois alone has a value about equal to our entire production of pig iron. Every time our miners dig a dollar from our gold mines, farmers dig S70 from the ground; and every time our miners dig a dollar of silver from our mines, we dig $165 from the ground. The farm pro ducts of the United States have a value more than twelve times great er than all the gold and silver mined in all the world. With their products of one year only the far mers of this country could buy at par all the stocks of all the nation al banks of the entire country, not once, or twice, but eight times over, and they could pay all the wages and salaries in our great iron and steel industry thirty-four times and have money left. During the past sixteen years our exports of all articles have exceeded our imports by ?5, 092, 000. 00. The farmer is responsible for our enormous fa vorable balance in internation trade. In all the world no other class in any country produces as much wealth as the farmers of the United States."
