WHEN IN NEED OF A CARPENTER 'PHONE 144
ROCK ISLAND
EXCURSION
Another Rock Island Excursion
Will Reach Here Today.
At intervals the Rock Island
Railway Company has been run
nine: excursions to the Southwest
for the past year and a half, but
only a few of them have had Tu
u:umcari for the end of the goinn
trip. The excursion today will, in
all probability, be in two sections
' and a large number of people will
get off here, spending the day look
ing around, and those who desire
to return will leave according
to schedule Sunday, returning via
of Dalhart and Amarillo. Tucum
cari people should take more in
terest in these excursions and
make it a point to meet as many of
these strangers as possible. They
are all atter information and want
to find out all they can in a short
time about the country.
CONTEST NOTICE
Ml
GIRLS STOLEN AND
SENT TO PANAMA
Battle Creek, Mich., Nov. 4.
That girls are being stolen from
their homes and sent to Panama
for immoral purposes was the state
ment made at the National Purity
congress here today, by Rose
Johnson, a missionary, who has
spent several years in Colon, where
she established a boarding home
for American boys. Miss Johnson
told of a twelve-year-old girl she
had attempted to rescue in Colon,
who told her she had been enticed
from One Hundred and Twenty-
fifth street, New York, by a strange
woman. Miss Johnson said she
was attacked in her efforts to get
SL the girl out of a den and later re
ceived word that the girl had been
beaten to death.
Miss Johnson has also done res
cue work in Alexandria, and she
stated that she rescued one girl who
had been shipped as a white slave
from Toronto to Chicago, then to
New York, then to Paris, and then
to Egypt, She said that drinking
and gambling conditions appeared
to her worse in Colon than at
Port Said.
