Qrltmood, Liberal, Ka. 4-3 pd After n long siege of rainy weath or, which altogether too Infrequent in Beaver county, and whllo the In convenience of the muddy walks ana street crossings is fresh in the mind ot all of us, it occurs to us is a good time to agitate the matter ot more walks and better street crossings for Beaver. This town Is woefully In need of walks and crossings and we will never get them till wo get busy and GET THEM so why not get busy right now Even barring the mud, which some may argue does not oc cur often enough to Justify the build ing ot walks, tho sand Is just as bad or worse than tho mud, and we need the walks on that account. Looking nt the. matter from an economical standpoint, to say nothing ot the con venience, we really cannot afford to go longer without taking some steps toward the building ot walks through the leading part ot town, to the churches'and schools. The saving in shoe leather alone would be no small Item. Wo know whereof we speak tor. living only three blockR oft the walk yet having to cover those three blocks at least four times a day and some times ottener. In going back and forth to our office, we find that a perfectly good pair of shoes, regard less ot whether we pay $6.00 or $12.00 for them, will wear us and be presentable for street wear not over three months and we have to exer cise the greatest care to. keep them going tbat length of time. With good wa'ks we venture one pair ot shoes would last us longer and look better than four pairs now do. The saving on shoes each year would be no Inconsiderable Item. Then think ot the Improved appearance ot the town and the better impression made on visitors and that all countB, as sure as the world. I' you think It does not, why do you brush up and attempt to look your best when going out of town or when expecting to meet friends or business associates. The Herald Is not over-burdenA with coin ot the realm and we'd have some walks to build if the town should de cide to brush up a bit In this way but we are ready and willing, to do It if others will do the same. We believe It would be to the business Interest ot the town to have such walks as are o badly needed built and those inter ested in the town, or not Interested for that matter but having property here, should get together and see what can be done.
