Court was called promptly at 10
o'lc Monday morning, Judge
Richard C. Watts ipresiding. Mr.
Long acted as stenographer in the
place of Mr. Wyatt Aiken, efficient
ly discharging the duties of that
office. The business of the court
wvas soon under way and was con,
tlnued with dispatch. The case
engrossing the chiefest interest
was that of the state against A. A.
Alexander charged with murder.
After the state closed the evidence
in this case, the defendants counseel,
Mir. Oarey, moved the Court to
direct a verdict of "not guilty'' on
the grounds 'Rf failure to establish
the charge or to connect the defen,~
