WHEN I BEHOLD TRY FACE. When I behold thy face Thy beauty strikes we mute; I cannot sing thy praise Nor urge my loVing suit; I hold my peace and stand apart, Lips silent, tho' not so my heart. I fear, yea strongly fear, Thy suitor eloquent; Ills words within thine ear Are all with music blent; Yet thou hast eyes and wit to see He means not half he swears to thee. Ah I were his gift but mine, I'd so applaud thee, love, The stars should cease to shine, The fleeting earth to move, And heaven and hell should listen long fo catch the butden of my song. - The Critic. Riv. W. UI. KIRTON IN CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE.-Easley, January 9. -We reached our new field of labor, Pick ens circuit, on the night of the 24th of Decemter, Just one week after the ad journment of Conference. By reason of a disappointment, we weae several hours behind the time that we were expected, and consequently a consid erable company which assembled at the parsonage to welcome us to omu new home, was also disappointed. We were sorry, very sorry, but we had to accept the aituation. Conpulsion i" a mighty power, of frequent manifes tations, in a great complicated world like this. On our arrival, we found that we had been sent to a kind peo ple. A bountifully spread table, th fine turkey, together with other luxu ries which greeted our eyes as we en tered the dining-room, manifested thoughtful kindness and good taste on the part of our new friends, and were enjoyed and appreciated bythe preach (' anld his family. We also 101111d flour, sugar, coffee, potatoes, and oth. er necessarics in the larder. I ani ex)ect.ing a year of hard, but agree able and stuecessful work.
