Why Leave Pickens.
Why go to Georgia or Texas

good a country as can be foud
anywhere. One of our citizens

to Pickens ten years ago with i
$600.00, and now can show $12,

others in this town and other
towns in the countyand through

Another of our citizeis ex
pressed the truth when he said:
"No use to go to Georgia or Tex

rhe task of organizing this trav

[n Downie & Wheeler's winter

hing is to engage the acts, and
his is done by agents of the
how, who, during the winter,
visit the amusement hall of
Furope and Asia in search of

ring barns the trainers are put

performers who have been rest

practice their acts, that they D
may be perfectd by the time
he regular rehearsals begin,
and all winter the sound of the
anvil and the mallet is heard at
he circus quarters. Meantime E
'he advertising cars have start- D
d out in advance, while the va

their way, arranging for circus
lots and bill board space, etc.
Then there is the 24-hour man,
who is a story in himself. He )
ets his title from being 24 hours
ahead of the show, arranging g
