Yesterday, 'as- I drove up to a friend and brot6er's house,. there was sogie thing that :put me back to cbidhpod dagy as I looked at the children and'the grandchildren all about in the yard and hodme. That home was Brother L. B. 'GrMley's. There were smiles that made me wish to say, Jesus lives; yes, Jesus, lives. Yes, smiles like those I had on Christmas Eve, before Santa rode up in his auto. Why was this? It was Grandpa Gravley's birthday. "He was 88.years old yesterday. Now, sir, drandpal. B. G. must have had some thoughts like these, namely: "low dear to my heart are the scenes of my childhood, When fond recollections recall then to view. The orchard, the meadow, the deep tangled wildwood, And every loved spot which my in fancy knew." Just a few more words. That table, how long I can't say, for I may not make it as long as it really was, and full, yes, running over with good things to eat. And you, Mr. Editor, had you been there, would have said to yourself, that dinner was fine. I think there were about 75 present. Now we, his friends, pray that Brother L. B. Grav ley, in his old age, shall keel) that blessed peace which he has now til''the roll is called upyonder. Pickens, June 26. S B. W'LITE. A Card From H. C. Tilman Mr. Editor: From information which 'aas come to me from over the district, I find that the report is being religiously circulated that I am going to with-iraw from the race for Congress. The foundation for this report is the fact that I am a mem ber of the National Guard, and will, in all probability, be ordored out for duty in the Mexican crisis. I am first lieutene.nt of the Green wood company, coast artillery, and if the coast artillery is ordered to mobil ize, I would most assuredly respond to the call, but I know of nothing in the rules of the Democratic party which disqualifies a National Guardsman from running in the Democratic primary. If I am ordered out I will condpet my cam Paign as best I can by correspondence and advertising, but in no-event will I withdraw from this race. I entered it in good falh, believing that I was fittad to serve the people acceptably as their representative in Washington, and I shall fight it out to the finish. I ask my friends throughout the dis trict to correct this report wherever they find it, and to tell the people that I am in the race to the finish. Respectfully, H. C. TILLMAN. Greenwood, S.
