Gave Up Hope
"I suffered five years, with awful paint, due to woman
ly troubles," writes Mrs. M. D. McPherson, from Chad
bourn, N. C "They grew worse, till I would often faint
I could not walk at all, and I had an awful hurting hi my
side; also a headache and a backache.
I gave up and thought I would die, but my husband
urged mc to try Cardui, so, I began, and the first bottle
helped me. By the time the third bottle was used, I could
do all my work. All the people around here said I would
die, but Cardui relieved me."

WHAT DOES TILLMAN THINK?
"South Carolina" Asks to Whom Sen
ator Refers In His Remarks About
Indecency.
To the Editor of The 8tate:
When Senator Tillman said that no
sane man would believe Judge Jones
favors social equality, I have been
Wondering what he thought of the
demagogue that would try to deceive
the people and arouse their preju
dices by uttering publicly such a
charge?
1 have been wondering what Sen
ator Tillman things of the man who
seeks to stir the passions and ani
mosities of the populace by publicly
alleging or insinuating that his oppo
nent Is of mixed blood.
As I have read Senator Tillnian's
letters. I have been wondering what
he thinks of a governor who stands
by an officer of the law, his own ap
pointee, to whom men swear that
they have paid graft and who him
self does not deny the charge.
Does Senator Tillman think the
State is safe under such an admin
istration?
Can the best legislature we may be
able to elect remedy such a state of
affairs?
Does Senator Tillman wish to see
this state which he has served so
long given over to this and other
forms of lawlessness and corruption?
I have been wondering whet was
Senator TUlman's estimate of our
governor when he wrote. "Sensible
men will never weigh Senator Till
man and Qov. Dlease in the same
scales, if the fools do, it is not any
fault of mine." And, incidentally, I
nm wondering what he thinks of the
rampant Blenseltes.
I have been wondering what Sen
ator Tillman thinks when lie failed
in his second letter to state that
Bloase is eminently qualified for the
governorship although bombarded by
ihe Dlea-:e)tes for sucli a testimonial.
Judge Jones has offered $100 In
gold for such a testimonial from Sen
ator Tillman. Senator Tillman has
been bombarded for such a testi
monial. Senator Tillman has written
a second letter. But Judge Jones
has the satisfaction of still having his
$100 in gold down safe In his jeans.
And I cannot help wondering what
Senator Tillman thinks of ""'.ease for
governor.
Senator Tillman professes great
humiliation of heart at the vulgar
ity, blackguardism, obscenity and in
decency enacted in the present po
litical campaign In South Carolina.
His fellow senators jeer at him and
cause him to he silent in shame.
1 have been wondering whom Sen
ator Tillman is thinking of as pub
licly engaging In "vulgarity, black
guardism and indecency."
I have been wondering who he
thinks has been talking.on the stump
about pimps, political prostitutes,
guttersnipes and nigger sweethearts.
I have been wondering If Senator
Tillman thinks this vulgarity, abuse
and indecency began with this cam
paign.
I have been wondering If Senator
Tillman read the Inaugural address
of Oov. Dlease, and the message to
the legislature which had to be re
fused admittance to the records, and
his remarks about the supreme court
and the legislature and the Ansel dis
pensary commission, etc.
I have been wondering If Senator
Tillman has noticed that ever since
Dlease took his seat as governor, we
have had this stream of abuse, vitup
eration and indecency pouring forth
upon everything that did not hear a
Dlease tag and upon every person
that did not wear a Dlease halter. I
wonder If Senator Tillman thinks, we
ought to ?0 harassed and scourged
with two more years of this thing.
I have been wondering if Senator
Tillman thinks that it is this cam
paign alone which has brought dis
grace upon the to and a feeling of
shame to the proud Carolinian as he
meets the citizens of other states: or
whether it is also the two years of
nieaseism with its volcanic fury and
turbulence that is causing us to hang
our heads in shame when we meet
the people of other states.
Let Senator Tillman ask his fel
low senators whether it is what South
Carolina is suffering In this campaign
or what she lias been suffering for
two years that should bring the blush
of shame to the true South Caro
linian?
I am wondering if South Carolina
will continue the shameful situation
for two more years and if Senator
Tillman will render aid and comfort.
South Carolina.
