KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS
MEET I IN CONVENTION
Verj Kn.lojuble ami Inspiring Meotlujj
of (he Seventh District Convention.
Crowned in the exenlng i>y n most
delightful banquet, tho Seventh Dis
trlct Convention of the Knights of
Pythias was held here last Wednes
day under very pleasing circumstanc
es. Attended by Boveral of the most
prominent pythinns of tho state, the
meetings hold during tho convention
proved very enjoyable and Inspiring to
all who were present. Grand "i hancel
lor Ceo. W. Dick, of Sumtcr, Grand
Vice Chancellor 11. K. Oshorne, of
Spartanburg, and Grand Keeper of
Rocords and Seals, ( has. D. Drown,
of Abbeville, \v< ro present and by their
genial as well as forceful personali
ties, gave a certain charm ami enthus
iasm to tho deliberations which will
doubtless he productive of much good
in the order for a long time to come.
The delegates wore given a hearty
we'eome by the resident knights and
judging from their expressions of ap
preciation, the meeting here must
have been one of the best held in
several years.
'the regular program of the day
Was somewhat delayed because of the
late arrival of the presiding ollleer, W.
(!. Womnck, who was detained by n
late train. Though late in beginning,
tho business was soon gotu n under
way and dispatched with precision and
rapidity. The only matter of public
Interest discussed was the next place
of meeting and upon the Invitation of
tho Union lodge it was decided to hold
the next convention in that city.
After the business meetings were
over in the afternoon, tile visitors
were given an nutomohllc ride around
the city an- this was followed by an
informal reception in tin4 lodge rooms.
Tho climax of (lie day's activities
Came in the evening at ;?:".(> o'clock,
when a sumptuous live course han
BUCt was served to the visitors and a
number of local friends of the lodge,
in his usual agreeable manner, Dr.
lt. Ii. Alken presided over the ban
quet and Introduced the several
speakers who regaled the banqueters
with spicy comments upon the sttb
jects suggested on the program. The
selection of speakers for the occasion
; roved very happy, the guests listen
ing to an unusually illuminating as
well as humorous treatment of the
subjects assigned them. Tbe follow
ing was the program of the evening:
"Our Alms"?-"Rev. k. o. Cantey or
