Paragraphs With Points to Thei
From a Reporter's Note Book, While
in the City.
Progress is a law which must be
respected and followed. It concerns
not only the character but the very
life of a town or community.
Unless there is progress In the
professions, the industires and busi
ness of a town or city it must retro
grade, there is no middle position, for
when growth ceases decay begins.
Therefore it is necessary either to go
forward or turn to the rear. Lau
rens is fighting steadily for the suc
cess which is now crowning her ef
forts, and the growth of the city for
the past few years has been more
marked than at any period in its pre
vlous history, ectrainly it has shown
no signs of decay. Laurens has and
is .ooking forward and not backward,
toward the goal of still greater
achievements in the future. The old
days of Laurens have passed away,
the days when she revelled in the
indolent Southern sunshine and
fought her glorious battles over again,
a younger generation has come into
the arena and is now fighting for su
pr(imacy In the field of trade and
commerce. The battle has none of
the horrifying spectacles of the 60's
but is now for homes, education and
employinnt for all. The mncii of Lau
rens are of a race now who build
c!ties, make desert places bloom and
knov not the meaning of th0 Word de
feat, and they know that the success
of cvery business means a step for
ward to what the people are looking
to,' a larger city. They all vie with
0o another in this and a drone is
trampled under foot In the march of
progress. The writer takes pride inl
the fact that lie is permitted to call
attention to this page of cards, and
make brief mention of what lie has
seen here in Laurens through the
colunins of The Advertiser, and would
call especial attention to the names
appearing on this page of cards as
being indlieative of seine of the best
in their several lines of endleavor, for
they all believe that what is worth
terdaily transactioiis. Another
