GRAND RALLY DAY VARESIDENT WILBORN ADDRNSONS At.. iANCE-S. Rome Production-41e U-s Appointed Zlaroh I ath tor Meeting of Alliances - Raise 'Hog and hominy" at Home. [Register, 24th.] The meeting of the general assem bly, t.he Maine disaster and other matters have drawn the attention of the people of South Carolina from the asocition known as the Cotton Growers convention, bnt Mr. .1. C. Wilborn, the president also presidont of the State Farmers' Alhance, has the interests -f the farmers very much at beart., although he has been oritioitiod by some for not calling a meeting of the Cotton Growers con vent.ion this mont,h and has not for. gotten the principle for wlch the convent-ion was organued. Yester day he issued t.he following, a call to Vit suh-allianceo of the st-t to rally on the 13th ot Ma.-ch for the pur po-e of disenssing the ways and mIans of making each farm self-sup po-,ing. The tenor of his letter is tint if the farmers will raise their own "hog andI hominy" the question of cotton acreage will regulate it self. While others think differently, Mr. Wilborn thinks that the farmers.. one and all, have decided to reduce the cotton acreage this year. In several counties they have obligated to plant only so much to the plow, averaging from ten to twelve bales. Iy addi tion to this is tho very appreciable falling off in the sales of .ortilizers. Mr. Wilborn's letter tothe ances ir as follows: I have pledged the alliance of South Carolina to unity of action in tho matter of cotton, its prodnction, sale and marketing. Now, therefore, ii ordor t.hat tho whole matter may be more fully discusuod and active measures may be inaugurated look ing to relief, the 13th day of March, 1898, is hereby selected, inamed and designated as Alliance Ially Day, whereby every sub alliance in the State is requested to meet at its reg ular meeting place on that afternoon there to consider tho cotton situation and all other matters that may per tain to the good of the order. The oflicers are urged to bo on hand in due time and are directed to inform the members of their respect ive sub-alliances of the rally day. This call to apply to every alliance that has ever been in existence in this State. The secretaries are re quested to no'.fy me of their action in all matters that pertain to the good of the order. I would suggest. that, you make one of the leading questions for dis cussion at this meeting the efforts every South Carolina farmer will make to have his farm self-sustaining if he du this, the matter- of cotton acreage will settle itself. Ito not deceived by the smnall aid vence in the price of cot ton, just at planhting tin.e, with a crop like the o1u just marketed you cainot hope to :'t more than five cents per pound for it. All alliance men ar-e earnestly urged to co-operate with the Cotton Growers organization in their efforts in this mattor. J. C. Wm.noa. Pros. Farmers' Alliance of So. Ca.
