The 1,loyd f;uily had decided to
have a family picture taken. All
the family relations were to gather
in tle front yard of grandtia and
1:andpa's home at four o'clock on a
certain day, and the artist was go
ing to take their pictures all to
gether.
K ittie 1,loyd was very un1ch de
lighted, and asked her mother a
great 1iily iellstioln about it.
''An 1 to be inl it, niantua?",
"Yes, dear-all the tifity."
gAnd Baby Ruth, too.''
"Yes, all tie children and grand

"\Well, you ask papa tonight."

that Iight the first thing lie heard
whenl his little girl eame to neet
hitim was:
"(), pala, may I have Sandy ili
the picture with nie? Maina's
going to 11ave Baby Ruth."
"I'm af..r1id you'll spoil th" pic

Sandy is worse yet. You see, we
shal all have to keep very still to
have our piettres taken, and I amt
a fraid neither you nor Sandy can
do that.''
"Oh, yes, we can!" assured Kit
tie. "l'll teach Sandy."
.vCry day after that Kittie gave
Sandy some lessons inl standiing

last; and Mr. I,loyd got oin the big
C.riige, and took thei all over to
grandpa's, where there was a large
gathering of aunts, uncles, and
COi)I.,;ils, who were to he in the pie
ture. Satndy was allowed to go
along, and Kittie was delighted.
At la-1 tie artist caine in a new
ly pinlted wagon with a big, long
word on the outside, which Kittie,
after a good deal of spelling, learned
was "photographs." It was very
interesting to watch time artist take
out his camera, and set it up on a
little fraie, and peep through it
with a black cloth over his head.
\Vh'.1i his machine was ready, lie
called the people together oi the
front porch; and, with grandina and
grandpa in the centre, the tall oies
in the back, and the short ones in
tle front, the people were arranged,
and imade ready for the picture.
K ittie had a place in the very front
of the picture with Sandy by her
side, who was to sit ump on his hind
legs.
"Now, IKittie,"' said mnammra,
"yvou iiiust keep perfectly still, and
not inove, or yon will spoil the pic
ture. \\liemithe artist says, 'Ready!'
you mnust not even wink unitil lie's

Kittie stood up very straight,
amid looked juist whiere the artist
h.id told her to look.
" All reaidy?'" said thle artist.
"Now."
K ittie looked arouind awfully
qunick to see if Sandy' was sitting up
all right, and j ust theii the artist
took thne picture.
"\\hy,uiniuna, is it over?'' asked
Kittie. as they all began to move
.muniid andi talk.
"Yes, Kittie,'" answered mamma,
"'its all over now; and yon can run
about and play',"
'Thle next day the proof of the
picture wvas brought to Mr. Lloydi,
and lie showed it to Kittie. There
was grandma aiid grandpa sitting
up in the centre, looking as calmi
and placid as ever. There wa
miamma and Baby 'R .ith as plain as
could be. and Sandy' sitting up as
straight as a dog could; but in thet

'You ioved,"' saidi papa grave

Kittie burst inito teats.
"'I only looked arounid to set if
Sanidy was quiet,"' she sobbed,
"adthen it was all over. I didn't
think tIne man would be so quick.
\\'hen the picture was shown to
the other relatives, they decided
that it w~as so good of grandpa andI
grandma that it must be kept. So
a short time after Mr. Lloyd brought
home the picture all finishedjand
framed, and hiung it up ini the par
lor. Kittie cried bitterly anid begged
him niot to hang it up, but papa
said he manst. Then .nmnuna took
her little girl into the parlor, anid
talked to her.
''The picture is spoiled, dear, be
cause yon did( not do as I told you
at once. I told you to keep per

was doing. Now I want you to
come and look at the spoiled picture

that it'got spoiled because you did
not obey piuviptly."
Kittie tri -k hard to remember
the lesson; and, when she forgot to
mind promptly, her mamma would
often say:
"Take care, Kittie: You are
spoiling your picture now.'' And
then Kittie would smile into her
mother's face, and hasten to do as
she was told.-Eva Kinney Miller,
