Colored Han Killed.
Nelson Barton, a jail bird was killed
last Friday near Geoges Station. The
facts of tho nflaii arc as follows: Nelson
Burton was imprisoned here last year but
succeeded in breaking jail and escaping.
Last week the Court issued n bench war
rant for his arrest, and accordingly the
Sheriff dispatched a posse after him, the
constables caught up with him near
Georges Station and ordered him to halt,
but Nelson could tut see it and kept the
even tenor of his w ay?which was full
speed, the constables accordingly fired,
some of tho shofs taking effect fataly.
The body was brought up on Saturday
and an inquest was held ; the jury found
the folio iving virdict: That Nelson BaY
ton died from wounds received at hand
of a Sheriff posse, acting under the au
thority ofh bench warrant issuicd by the
Court of General Sessions."

Board of Examiners at Columbia on Thursday
