Clerk and Tieas?Kirk Robinson.
Aldermen?Henry Washington, J. P.
Harley, B. Williamson, T. D. Wolfe.
Bilvano is coming. I
The sentence of Russell Wilson who
was to be hung hero on January 8th,
has been commuted by the Governor
to imprisonment for life.
The Hotel keepers were busy on Mon
day preparing for visitors to the Fair.
We understand that all the hotels will
be filled to overflowing.
The heaviest froBt of the season on
Monday, typical doubtless, of the kill
ing out of every thing green on |
Tuesday.
It can be said to the credit to Or- ;
angeburg that there were no rows on I
election day. on tho contrary every
thing passed of quietly and creditably
to both races.
? ?
A Railroad aceident occurred on
Sunday about twenty-four miles below
Branchville. An engine and several
cars run off the track, but we believe
uo serious damage was done.
Tue Rural Carolinian for November
comes to us with its usual feast of read
ing matter. Among other things we
notice extracts from an article on Im-,
migration by G. A Neuffer of our town.
Silva no and Royal Ma rrio nettes.
More animals, more cages, more
dens, more chariots, more performers,
more horses, more ponies, more birds,
more reptiles, Inrgest procession, more
musicians und tho greatest parade ever
witnessed, can bo seen the day Ohl
John Robinson exhibits in Orangeburg.
EciiAUD has his canopy spread ou
the Fair Grounds, md will take the
best of pictures ut reasonable rates,
lie otters inducements at this time
which no one should let pass, who wants
a good likeness of himself, or sweet,
heart. Don't he afraid to go to him
because you are ugly.
Mu. Augustus Fischer seems deter
mined not to be excelled as a grocer,
and retail dealer in liquors cigars &c.
Ho has now ou hand an immense stock
of cigars, und some of the finest bran
dies and liquors ever offered in the
Orangeburg market. Persons calling
at his store will be courteously aud
faithfully served by his efficient assis
tants Dr. Butler and Mr. Asbury
Wannamakor.
Be sure and see Silvauo.
C. D. Kortjohn advertisers to-day
"Hygienic Tonic Bitters," aud a fine
lot of goceries liquors cigars &c. These
bitters, for which he is agent, arc high
ly recommended for their stimulating
and health giving qualities, and as to
his groceries and liquors Mr. Kortjohn
is too well known by the people of
Orangeburg for any doubt to be enter
tained as to tho superior quality of
every thing he sells. Mr. Kortjohn is
young, but his reputation as a business
man stands high. Besides his enter
prise, another secret of his success is,
his liberal use of printers ink.
For 50 years the name of John Rob
inson has been a house-hold word. He
will shortly be with us again with his
great show?in the Circus are over 100
artists?among whom is Robinson the
Great, Stickncy the unrivaled, Kelly
the unequalled, while Emma Lake,the
greatest of living Equestriennes, is at
the head of the female attaches. But
why speak of the Circus, when the
Menagerie is the feature of features.?
Here, in addition to 50 cages, are tho
monster Sea Lions, tho huge Rhinoce
ros, -the performing Elephnnts, the
pair of living Giraffes, the great Ost
riches, tho Heards of Buffalo, and the
three-homed Sacred Cattle ; and re
member, all can be seen for ono price.
The Big Show oxhibits at Orangoburg
on Wednesday December tho 2nd.
Everybody get leady to see tho Great
World's Fair of Wonders.
Bilvano the Wonder of the World.
The Orangebfivg Fair.
Oponed on Tuesday with flattering
prospects of success. The first day be
ing election day, the crowd of visitors
was not as great as it may . otherwise1
have been, but from all the indications
Wednesday and Thursday will be the
attractive days.
We had no time in our cursory view
on Tuesday to give a iull description
of all wo saw. In fact the great vari-^
ety of tho fair specimen* of every;
kind,so bewildered us.that we could not
concentrate, bur thoughts' on any one
particular object. Some of the depart
merits we noticed were fuller than
usual, while a few seemed to fall a lit-,
tie behind.
We were particularly struck with the
"Sweet Meat Department." We dont
think the specimens of pickles, pre
serves &c, could be excelled. We
noticed also some of tho finest and most
tempting cakes on exhibition.
The "Fine Art Department" is also
in our opinion tar ahead of previous
years. We were highly pleased with
the fine crayons and water color draw
ings. The view of Maekays point was
familiar.
The painting on two buggies done
by Mr. James A. Williams of ourtown
was exquisite, and speaks well for Mr.
Williams as a fancy painter.
The "Poultry Department" is doubt
less ono of the most attractive in the
Fair. We saw one coop of "Buff Bra
mas" and one coop of 'Light Brarnas*
exhibited by Mr T. W. Muller, which
kept us spell bound for several minutes
in consequenceof their unusual sizeand
beauty. In tho pigeon line a pair of
"White Ruffs," and a pair of'Cairiers'
were exquisitely beautiful..
Our attention was called to a
specimen of Orangeburg Phosphate
from phosphate rock in the upper part
of Orangeburg County. If this leads
to the development of mines of thin
treasure, our old county will make new
strides in the progress of wealth.
We were also attracted by tho stuff
ed head ami tail of a fox caught recent
ly in England by a huuting party, and
brought to the Orangeburg Fair by
one of the party, who is a well known
nud highly esteemed citizeu of the
county, ever having the iuierest of our
people nearest to his heart.
The Fair on Wednesday was well
attended, the Tournament being the
attraction of the day. The procession
was composed of seventeen Knights pre
8cuting an unusually fine appearance
The Judges were Cnpt. T A. Jeffords,
Cephas McMichael Esq.nnd DrSmokc.
Th& 1st., Prize was gained by tho
"Knight of Glencoo" E. L. Snlley.
2d Prize by the'Knight of Bamberg'
W.J.Jones. 3rd by the''Knight ot
Santcc" G A Fairy.
Miss Minnie Hartzog of Bamberg
was crowned Queen, and wore her lion
ors with grace and dignit).
It being near time for press, we will
have to curtail our notes with the prom
ise of being more full in our next.
