It is the happiest and most virtuous
slate of society in whiehjlho husband

sympathy of soul, gradnlate all their;
expenses, plans, calculations ami de

?in'.eicsl. Kolhing delights man more
than to enter lh6 neat litlle'tencmcnt
of two 301mg people who, within pci
htip's two or three years, without any
resouiees but knowledge of industry.
Iiave joined heart and hand, and en
gaged to share together the responsi
bilities, duties, interests, trials and
pleasure of life. This is the true do
mestic pleasure. Health contenmcnt,
love, abundance, and hright'pros'pcctsi
arc all here. Hut it lifts become a
prevalent sentiment that ? a man must
acquire his fortune before be marries,
that the wife must have no sympathy
nor share with him in the pursuit] of
it?in which most of the pleasure
truly consists?and the young marri
ed people must set out with as large
?anil expensive an establishment as is .
becoming those who have bceVi wed
ded for twenty years. This is very
unhappy ; it fills the community
with bachelors, who are wailing lo
make their fortunes, endangering vir

true economy and design of'.bo do

idleness and intlliciency among fe
males, who aic expecting to be taken

their part; and thus many a wife he

The B. P Union.
We learn that the members of the
Bachelors' Protective Union intend
to hold a'preliminary -meeting this
evening in the Town Hall and take
steps to expel those of their number
who have rendered thenioclvcs obnox
ious to the aims and principles of the
organization. The Union is not in a
triving condition just at present; for
at least two-thirds of the members
have rendered themselves liable to
the penalties prescribed in the article
of the constitution providing for ex
pulsion. We say this without fear,
favor or affection, reward or the hope
reward. There have been entirely
too tunny "moonlight drives" for the
good of the Union, aim Art. 8 of the
constitution, known as the "candy
and soda-w?tor rule," has become a
dead letter, and hence has no binding
'cireot . ubh the!members. .Nearly all
'thepr?-' isionsof the constitution have!
been most grossly violated, anil
none nun c flagrantly so than Art. 12,
relating lo visiting. Instead of con

At an onion party in Kockland tho

party of Ibis description it is the cus

mouthful fiom ar." oiii'on. A young
man is then admitted, and jl is his
proud privilege to kiss tho batch of
girls until he is enabled by the tasle
to determine which of them bit the
fragrant fruit. The brunette afore
mentioned in this' case slipped the
onion into her pocket instead of bit
ing it, and the spruce Huston drum
mer, who was'summoncu lo test and

circle, and was beginning again,
when a girl, whose jealous lover wtia
outside, discovered the trick, and the
game was up.
