Tke fwrth if July Committee
, WW Hive to, Weet Again
. in Thursday.
At the meeting yeHtordHV evening tit
the opera house of the Fourth of July
committee no business was transacted.
Indeed, the members present were un
able to effect uny organization for the
furtherance of the work for which the
meeting was called. The unsatisfactory
manner In which Itwt year's committee
acted haH caused the men essential to
successful performance of such work to
be disgruntled and unwilling' to accept
the responsibility of this year's arrange
ments. After James Letson had been ajn
pointed permanei.t chairman, with
James Muich for sect ary, a commit
tee on finance-comprh i ijr the following
citizens was formed: Jlobert Tate, Sid
Harris, T, S. Douglass, T. C. "Wright
and G. J. Mct'abe. The committee on
finance was arranged without much
difficulty, but when an attempt was
made to nominate a committee on ar
rangements, the pyrotechnics opened
with a rush. Some one nominated Joe
If cCabe. Joe reared up and snorted.
He said that last year he had been one
of twenty-seven members of the com
mittee; that only six of them met, und
that three lone members carried on the
work that should hayo devolved uixm
the entire twenty-seven. An uttempt
was made to nominate T. C. Wright,
but he balked for the same reasons, as
did also John Brown, Amos Kindred
and James Craigbaum. Some desultory
talk was then Indulged In, whereupon
Chairman Letson became wrathy and
adjourned the meeting.
Another meeting will be held Thurs
day. It Is to bo hoped it will result In
the desired organization. If the re
luctant members of last night's confer
ence were assured of good work from
any and all men appointed to the dif
ferent committles, It is certain that
they would enlist their services to make
the local celebration of the national
holiday a howling success.

JOHN GIN PETERS OIL
The First Chinaman Who Re
mained In Bisbee Tenty
John Gin, a Chinese peddler well
known to all Bisbee, died yesterday
afternoon at the milk ranch of Richard
R. Lockett three miles north of town.
He visited the ranch at 1:10 p. m. and
sat down ifttthe door complaining of
being hot. He asked if Lockett had
seeil his (Gin's) partner and was told
that Jim, as the Chinaman is called,
had passed the ranch early on his way
to Bisbee. He complained of being
sleepy and lay on a cot in the shed
adjoining the house. When Lockett
was about to start for Bisbee at three
o'clock he heard Gin struggling and
moaning and going to the shed asked
him what was the trouble. Gin replied:
"I am going to die." He called for his
partner Jim, and continued muttering
in Chinese and Mexican. Finally he
was siezed by a severe spasm and slip
ped to the floor where he died. Lock
ett notified Coroner S. K. Williams,
who immediately impannelled a coro
ner's jury and visited the ranch. This
forenoon the jury listened to tin evi
dence, but in consequence of Doctor
Edmundson's inability to finish analyz
