Thk bill for segregating a further
portion of the San Carlos Indian reser
vation has passod thu lower house of
congress and has been favorably re
ported in the senate. The land re
stored to the public domain ' contains
valuable mines and embraces portions
of Pinal and Gila counties.
The Minneapolis Tribum recalls the
; fact that there used to bo a joko about
McKlnley, as the advance agont of
prosperity, being a long ways ahead of
the show. But the show caught up to
him at last, and it is certainly the
grandest aggregation over paraded be
foro tho world, with all the industrial
works of tho nation in full blast as its
Without any other natural advant
ges, Naco is destieed to become a town
of prominence through the excellent
quality of brick that is manufactured
in the Lino City. Bisbee will in future
cousumo all the building material Naco
can manufacture. Tho interests of tho
two are towns mntual and both will
grow to promiuence on their respect
THE Review management is pleased
to realize that tho Bisbee public appre
ciates the endeavors being put forth in
its behalf to make a good paper. We
are doing our part aud the miners, me
chanics and those who go to constitute
tho camp have responded to the enter
prise and are giving a liberal recogni
tion of what they evidently believe, to
be a deserving constituent of the great
"Prop. George Treadwell recent
ly investigated the Spenazuma proper
ty in Graham county and reported fav
orably upon it," said P. Contzen yester
day. A recent issue of a New York
mining papor published tho rciwrt and
added that the Spenazuma Company
now contemplate activo operations on
their claims, anticipating the early lo
cation of a plant. -Arizona Star.
And pray, will tho Star say who Mr.
Contzen is? The Spenazuma was first
put under a ban by Governor Murphy,
who exposed the "wild-cat" scheme,
and it will be surprising to the public
whon it learns that ex-Governor
Hughes through his paper attempts to
foster a mining proposition that exists
onlythrough exposure. The machinery
at the phantom concern has been ac
quired -by tho Whipsaw Mining Co.,
and all tha,t is left of tho Spenazuma
is tho unsavory name that has conduced
to retard the mlntng interests of Arizona.
. Volume 1, No. 1, of the Bisbee Daily
Herald was flung upon tho Review
desk this morning. Tt is under tho
' auspices of tho Uiabee Publishing com
pany (incorporated), with Paul Hull
standing sponsor for any inaccuracies
that may appear in its columns-'. Tt is
an elegantly gotten up journal; is re
plete in its local department, and scin
tillates with wit and carcasm through
out its editorial columns, giving ovi
denco that tho inau at tho helm is not
a novice. Mr. Hull is of the old 6chool
of journalism, having labored on many
leading papers in tho east, when he
found a broader field for his talent and
camo to Arizona, whoro he established
.the Graphic, which was short lived,
but, judging from this latent endeavor,
tho public will readily see that the
Herald, under Mr. Hull's management,
'" , will be a success. Tho Review ex
: tends the kind hand to tho Herald.
The allegation that ancient Egyp
tians tempered copper and bronze to
carry a razor edge is not born out by
investigation. Tltomus Harper, of
Bollevleu, Pa., says tho American
Manufacturer, challenges any one to
produce a piece of metal tempered by
tho ancients that cannot bo dupli
cated by any metal worker today. He
says that In examining hundreds of
specimens alleged to have been tem
pered to a degree that stool Is temper
ed he failed to find any, nor had ho dis
covered anyono who had seen such
work, and the fablo which has been
implicitly believed for centuries is bo
ing slmttorcd in tho light of modern
research. This Is not tho only story
bellevod for centuries tending to bcltt
tlo the man of today, to make hi in the
Inferior of his forefathers, which failed
under tho searchlight of inquiry and
science. Tho ancients wore children
in raochaulcal knowledge, as compared
to tho people of today, and If there was
a demand for any particular building
or pIsco of work such as was produced
by tho ancients It could bo duplicutod
and improved on by tho skilled artisans
of the nineteenth century.
