The program is one of interest from
start to finish, commencing on Monday
with the great oivic, military, cowboy
and Indian parade, concluding with
the coronation of the queen of the car
nival and street fair, Mrs. N. B. Pratt,
in installing her on the throne, and
with the vaudeville entertainment, the
opening day will be one of complete
The carnival, the present year in
Phoenix, is a combination of the highly
original idea of the past years of the
exhibition of Indian and cowboy sports,
industries characteristics and pastimes
together with the now idea of a street
fair. The Carnival Association has
gathered together the best ideas from
ull sources. There will be a largo'
number of booths occupied by mer
chants with their wares, located alonp
Washington street, the main street of
the city, and these, together with the
beautiful street docoratlons and thous
ands of incandescent lights, will form n
picture of great splendor.
The Director-General of the Carni

and well known young business man

The local Elks have arranged to give

mal acrobatic acts, rude bands, clowns
and above all a big tent capable of seat
ing 2,000 persons.
They have a number of committees
appointed to carry through their part
of the entertainment successfully, and
the Elks' Day will be a memorable one
In the history of the carnival.
The oowboy steer-tying tournament
takes place Saturday and there are
about twenty entries so far. These and
similar features are in charge of Jack
Gibson and J. W. Benham.
' The present year the social features
and functions of the carnival have been
more than usually entered into.
Mrs. Chief Justice Webster Street
and her committee of ladies will have
charge of the queen's reception on
Thursday night, which will be a very
brilliant affair. And on Friday night
the official carnival ball will be the so
