Several first-clas3 lioleli in various
parts of tho country now give a per
manent place on their bills of fair to
boiled clam juice. The secret of the j
potency of this preparation, which is
simply what the name calls it the
juice of the clam boiled until moder
ately thick has long been known, it
is said in London swelldom, but here
it is comparatively new. It is the
only thing in the world that will safe
ly, study and quickly restore the
normal equilibrium of a system upset
by overmuch of a good lime with tho
boys. It is pleasant to take, perfectly
harmless, and never fails even in the
most hardened case. It has none of
the deleterious after-effects of bro
mide and the other drugs usually ap
plied as nervesoothers and constitu
tion bracers. Another form of the
same thing is the clom cocktail, and
this is also dispensed at the bar.
There is only one objection to clam
juice this is tho peculiar smile of
the waiter that always goes with it.
Nobody ever order boiled clam juice
but a man that needs it, and a man
who needs clam juice is in a condition
to be irritated by a knowing grin on
a waiter's face. If the juice hotel can
only arrange to have the stuff served
by cast iron waiters, the demand for
it is bound to be immense. Bon
Vivant.
