These show Senator Taliaferro so far in the lead that it is thought iiis nomination was secured in Tuesday's primary. Tim n-tiims from llilshoro county are'not in. Tampa counts slow. The voto so far received for Governor shows Roh't W. Davis to have a lead of 2,500 over Napo leon B. Kroward, the next highest candidate", with Brovn following way hehind and Mays bringing up the rear. Frank Clnrk leads Itarrs in the Congressional race, and these men will fight it out in the second primary. S. M. Sparkntan is re-uoniinated for Congress in the First District over Itolj't. McXamee. It also looks as if Win. N. Sheets would succeed himself as state Superintendent of Public Instruction. The race for the Attorney Gen eralship between W. H. Ellis and Alfred St. Cluir Abrams is close with the chances in favor of St. Clair Abrams. H. Clay Crawford will probably have a majority over both his competitors for Secretary of State. The full returns from Duval county, including Hie. city of JacK- ,,viil., vv.ih not irtven out until Thursday night. These returns con- r.ained some surprises. Tlin vote for Talinferro and Davis was niaguili cent, and Putnam county will not soon forget Duval's great tribute to I'titnani's favorite son. following is the Duval vote: For fnltcd 8lttlf Senator Wilkinson call. 21: V. s. PUTN AM'S CAMPAIGN UNDS nnd All County Ciiiulitlatcs Were Noininnteil in last Tuesday's Primary. Last Tuesday's primary settled deinocralte nominal ions for Putnam county. Thero will be no second primary needed in any case. The following are the nominees: Legislature O. F. Sprague John P. Wall. Clerk Joseph Price. Treasurer S. J. Kennerly. Sheriff K. C. Howell. County Judge II. I. Coxe. Tax Assessor 5. K. Dullard. Tax Collector A. S. Willurd. Supt.of Instruction L. IC. Tucker. Supt of Ueffistrntion Hennis Pe terman. Williams will represent the fifth district in place of T. J. Rogers. The tnble-which appears in this Is sue of the News, is ofllctal, and therefore correct, and .those who want to get nt majoritiS can easily figure them out for themselves. It will ie seen thnt Sheriff Howell and Treasurer Kennerly made phe- Jestcd Hiiri-s, but it Will Take u y to Nominate. nominal runs. Thnt the slieritf isja line e.ampaisrner is seen in the fact that one week before the primary he staled to the News that his majority would be 23.j. ItisilH. Hon. James M.Chesser acknowl edged his defeat on Thursday and went home a sadder but wiser man. He desired the News to express to his friends his appreciation of their support. Mr. Chesser made an air gressive campaign and pulled i'i't votes. Dr. Sprague lias not left Crescent City since he made his announce ment and lias not solicited a vote, yet he received 5(1!) and leads the legislative ticket. Hon. John P. Wall has been cam paigning for Rob't. W. Davis in other counties and has likewise neglected his own canvass. He re ceived C31 vote and the nomination. Tax Assessor ISullard lias again demonstrated the popular esteem in which he is held by polling a vote which is a handsome majority over the combined vote of his competitors. Judge Coxe always was a runner and lie had his usual full head of steam on this time as is nppuraut from the handsome majority he re ceived over Hon. J. H. Harp. Later Since above was written it appears that J. C. Sticklnnd has not a majority over botli his opponents for county commissioner in the 4t.h district and a second primary for this one oillce may be had if insisted up on by his highest opponent. There vereiii7 votes cast for gov ernor in Palatka last Tuesday. Mr. Davis received HH) of them. "A pro phet is not without honor, except in his own country" hut Mr. Davis is not a prophet lie's only an honest, plain spoken friend of the people who hap pens to be a candidate for governor. Hon. S. J. Hilburn has been mak ing some effective speeches for Gov. Diivis in t he campaign and has made a fine impression everywhere he has addressed the people. Jtefore leav ing for Washington last Tuesday the Governor expressed himself as feel ing under lasting obligations to Col. Hilburn for his great, work, nnd also to Hon. Jno. P. Wall. Dannetie H.
