A few 3Tcars ago a newpsaper pub
lished at sea would hnve been in
conceivable, but the passengers
on the Cunard liner Etruiia, on
a recent trip from New York to
Liverpool, after six da's out, en-
joyed reading a paper printed on
shipboard and containing bulle
tins of the most important news
of the . world. The paper was
made up from dispatches pre
pared by the Reuter Jagency and
transmitted oy wireless teler
graph to the vessel. Shortly be
fore midnight of February 6th,
the Cunarder being about 70 miles
distant from the Irish coast, the
wireless instruments began to
work, and summaries of what
was going on in the world came
yibrating on board. Most of t he
passengers were asleep at the
time, but the editorial s.tafif was
wide awake, and every tiling was
in readiness for printing the pa
per when the news had been re
ceived. Purser McCubbin acted as edi
tor, and handled the dispatches
which Operator Hughes received.
A, Hurris, ship's printer, set up
the matter in type, and Assistant
Purser EL Ü. Stainer undertook
the job of circulation manager.
The original 500 copies that were
struck off wete seized quickly as
