OFFICIAL PAPER OF APACHE COUNTY October 18, 1917. . ' ''The Zuiri village is still a wonderful place", said Judge Crosby who visited the old pueblo recently "and more of our local people ought to visit it. Yet it is rapidly losing many of its inter esting customs. Most of the small grain will be threshed by a new steam thresher this fall and the hard mud and rock bottom tramping floors will soon be a thing of the past. A new grist mill is ready to be put up andthemetate and grinding rock will soon be pushed aside. Twenty years ago the people there had no light ex cept the glow of their wood fires, but now nearly every house has gas lights. The batter cakes that used to be baked on hot rocks are being replaced by light bread cooked in the oven of a steel range. Mighty few Zunis wear moccasins' any more and two thirds of the women wear knit stockings in place of wrapping their ankles as they used to do. There are no new houses in the old terraced town on the hill, and all the better buildings that are put up now are on the level ground below the old town. Each year the Aztec manufactures and cus toms are being replaced by those of the Europeans. It is still the most interesting thing in Indian life that is left in North America, but it should be visited soon to have its greatest interest". 5.50 17 08 2.50 4.80 1.00 3.60 ' 10.00 1.12 7.35 90.00 5.24 112.65 10.00 490.00 130.50 Sour Stomach.
