OFFICIAL PAPER OF APACHE COUNTY
November 8, 1917.
I hate to be a kicker, for it does
not stand for peace;
But the wheel that does the
squeaking is the one that gets, the
grease. Mallet and Planer.
Y.M.C.A. CENTERS GODSEND
FOR SOLlIER BOYS
"Who pays?"
"I don't know, but whoever
it is God bless them. They
are the fathers of millions of
boys."
All Worn Out
The most humanizing or
ganized activites of war time
is the work of the Young
Men's Christian Associations,
in the training camps at home
overseas and in the prison
camps. Wherever our boys
are sent they wil1 find the
sign of the Red Jriangle, the
Army representative of this
wonderful organization on
hand to welcome them with
its tonic atmosphere of good
cheer, sociability and clean
living.
For splendid constructive
work this organization is car
rying on is almost beyond de:
scription. Any one of the
150,000 of our boys now on
the firing line in France and
the millions at home in the
training camps, would tell you
the same thing this Arizona
boy wrote to his folksat
home.
"I feel as if you ought to
know something of the work
of this life-saver, the Y.M.C.A.
Since the "Y" shack was
opened the dance-hall on
Houston Street are deserted.
You will recall when I first
landed here I wrote that we
had the best crap-shooters and
card sharks in the Army.
Well, that is a thing of the
past here. The old cry of
"Come Baby Joe" and "Stay
with me Phoebe" is no more.
The "Y" has the gang. Two
of them have become checker
fiends, one won' the dominoe
championship . and the other
two are playing on the basket
ball team and studying
French. '
"If you have loved ones at
home, it is impossible to resist
the open ink bottles and the
pens and paper which are
supplied free. It makes you
ashamed to think that the "Y
is more interested in your
home- folks than you are
You know that I was a "slack
er" when it comes to religion
That was partly due4 to the
way it was handed to me.
But the "Y" hands out in re
ligion in doses that a man can
take. It tightens up the halt
er that gets loose when a man
gets away from home.
Does the morning find you with
alame.stiff and aching back? Are
you tired all the time find work
a burden? Have you suspected
your kidneys? Globe people en
dorse Doan's Kidney Pills. You
can surely rely on their state
ments.
Mrs. Anna Rowe, Devereux &
Apache Sts., Box No. 444, Globe,
Ariz., says: "Doan's Kidney Pills
are a family remedy in our home
and it is seldom that we are with
out Lhem. Sometimes when I
catch cold, it settles on mv kid
neys and I suffer with backache.
When I get these attacks I feel
so tired out and listless I can hard
ly go. Dizzy spells come over me
and black spots float before my
eyes, blurring my sight. A few
doses of - Doan's Kidney Pills have
always quickly removed this
trouble so I can again go about
my housework, feeling like my
self." Price 60c, at all dealers. Don't
simply ask for a kidney remedy-
get Doan's Kidney Pills the same.!

A sword, broken and rusty,

the rebel uprising in Nicaragua
in 1912. It formerly reposed in

the steel of the sword was' in

Yoahave no enemies, you, say.
Alas! my friend the boast is
poor;
He who has mingled in the fray
Of duty, that the brave endure,'
Musthava made foes! If you
have none
Small is the work that you
have done.
You've hit no traitor on the hip.
You've dashed no cup from
perjured lip,
You've never turned the wrong
to right,
You've been a coward in lifp's
fight.
