The old Paymaster mine requires little explanation, for it was shut down yearly thirty years ago by the own ers who wanted to enjoy the profit of their rich find. And many millions of dollars were made from this property, and as the Paymaster's Extension is only a short distance from the old mine, it is to be pre sumed that the new company has really found the lead of the old mine which was lost by the former owners vhen it pinched out and which they failed to re-locate. Assays from the Paymas ter's Extension show values running all the way from 15 ro 80 per cent lead, with a lib- 1 i r 1 . ciai anuwing ui silver, ana in order to correctly ascertain just how deep the vein which is more than 20 feet in width will run, a contract has been let for the sinking of a three hundred foot shaft and work will commence im mediately. They are in doubt whetherMto take the Niland or the Yuma-Holtville plank road, which under ordinary circumstances is much preferable, but just now there is a persistent rumor all along, the line east of here that the planks are cov ered with drifts and even if this were true it is hard to see how the Niland road without planks, could be better. t Twenty cars went from Yuma to Holtville, 57 miles, several weeks ago, in -about 'three hours, without mishap, and the writer is informed that the plank road is just as good now as it was then. Apparently the drawback to the plank road is getting off the planks; but, Avith good driving,- there is very little necessity of that; and, even then but a matter of lifting a wheel back on the track. With two men in the party, the plank road is at all times best; but, if a woman alone were driving the experts say, "Take the Niland road, which is a little far ther and slower, but everybody gets through."
