The most important military post in
Arizona is located in the soulwestern
part of the Territory, Fort Huachuca,
in the mountains of the same name.
It is situated amid lovely mountain
scenery, and nt an altitude that ren
ders the summer climate delightful.
The intention of the military authori
ties is to abolish all the smaller posts,
now that their usefulness lias gone
with the subjugation of the hostile
Indians of the Territory, and to con
centrate the troops in large bodies at
stragctic points easily accessible by
railroad. In the shifting process,
Fort Huachuca and Grant appear to
be the only ones that will be left in
Southern Arizona.- Commissioner
