Mrs. E. B. Mason took a trip to Ben

on a short visit.
The republican delegates returned
from their convention at Tombstone
today and are apparently well satisfied
with their ticket. They think thoy
have as good men for the various po
sitions as are obtainable and expect
the whole ticket to poll a strong -oto.
The democrats met here at the
office of Judge Pen-in last night for
the purpose of making their nomina
tions for this precinct. Judge Ferrin
one ct the present Justices of the
Peace, was re-nominated. Ho will

We notice in the Daily Democrat
this evening the annauncement of a
dance which is to come Oil" tomorrow
evening. In it they refer to a couple
ot our society leaders as "Thomas the
Sage." and '-Tommy the mascot." The
"Sge" may be all right, but we desire
to call their attention to the fact that
the second gentleman is mora com
monly known in our upper circles as
'Tommy th'e Scorcher' Ihe young
man who fell ofT of his bile. This
little mark of respect was first tender
ed the young gentleman while on his
trip to Tucson at whirh place he moo
the admiration of a great many
ot the young ladies by his Excellent
feats on the delusive "bike.? We
mention this that the young g'ontle-
nun may receive his just deserts in
future. It is not right to call a, person
"Mascot" alter ho has acquirsd the
dignified cognomen of "Scorcher."
It appears from the raisin; events
that a number of our county calamity
howlers have been rather disappointed.
For a number of days previonc to the
republican convention they are busily
engaged in plying their uteless avoca
tion, telling us what a conflict there
was sure to bo in the convention, how
the party would be split up, and other
dire disasters too numerous to mention.
Willi these rumors before them the
delegates from the, various districts
went to the convention fully expecting
a stormy gathering and went with a
Used detsrmination to stand Jap for
what they considered jutt and light
What was their surprise to find the
convention as harmonious as could be
and entirely free from dissentions of
any kind. On their return they im
mediately began a search for the
"howeiers" but these accommodating
gentlemen had crawled into their holes
quite early in the day and were not to
