Itoud Flooding.
Last Tuesday morning Benj.
Perkins, of Thatcher, flooded the
county road in front of Alfred's
btoro, at that place, and road-master
Martincau went before
Justice Woods for the purposo of
swearing out a complaint, but
finally- .concluded to allow Mr.
Pcrkins'to complain on himself,
which ho did, and was fined 85.00
by iho Justice.
This is the only method by
which tho roadmaster will ever
bo able to lecop tho roads dry, and,
whilo it is not very pleasant to bo
arrested and fined, neither is it
pleasant for tho public to travel
thiough a continual mud holo.
Thero aro several bad mud holes
between horo and Thatcher, to
which wo wish to call the road-master's
attention.
Thero are miles of waste ditches
in ttje valley, bordering on tho
county road that have not been
cleaned out for more than two
years, and when this condition exists
it is no wonder tho roads
aro flooded.
We would say to tho roadmaster,
if peoplo will not clean out their
waste ditches and take care of
thoir wasto wator, bring thorn
tho noarcst Justico every time
they flood tho road.

They will visit tho Lono Star dis
trict next week, and from thero go

MrfDibblo has been min
ing for tho last 35 years, and during
that time has visited every
principal mining camp in tho west,
except those in Arizona. His
present visit to tho Territory is for
tho purpose of investigating mines
and ho says that both in richness
and quantity Arizona s mines sur
pass, by far, thoso in any State
or Territory ho has visited, and he
says on account of the country being
so well watered and the camps
lying in such closo proximity to
tho farming districts makes both
the mineral and farming lands
much more valuable.
Tho last samp visited by these
gentlemen before coming to the
valley was Gold Filds, about 20
miles from Mesa city, and their
opinion is that it is ono of the
richest camps in tho Territory, and
as soon as it becomes better known
it will become a. great camp.
Mr. Dibble, although a Utah
man, sa3's if that state had ono
half of Arizona's gold, our Territory
would still bo well enough
off and Utah havo about what sho
is at present claiming.

Will people never learn that a

ESTABLISHED 1895
"PUT UP YOUR HANDS!"
Was the Command Given to Mr.
ferson by a Highwayman on
Thursday Night of Last
Week.
EELIEVED OF HIS MONEY.
Held up by a Lone Robber on the Kull-
road Track Parties (inspected A
Search Warrant Issued,
Safford is getting up quite a
reputation, rather unenviable, however.
On Thursday night of last
week at about 11:30 o'clock, as Mr.
Jefferson was going homo ho was"
stopped on tho railroad track near
tho Groesbeck hotel by a masked-robber
and relieved of his pocket-'
book, containing G5 or 70.
On that day Mr. Jefferson coP
lected something over a hundred
dollars, but during tho day he paid
out all but tho above amount. It
was evidently known by the highwayman
that Mr. Jofferson had tho
money as Scotty, the plasterer,
who was but a few stops ahead of
him was first bailed by tho robber,
but when ho saw ho was not Mr.
Jefferson he passed on without
holding him up. Scotty noticed
that tho man had something over
his faco but did not think about
him being a robber. Tho robber
then went on up tho track and next
met Mr. Jefferson, when ho commanded
him to hand over his
money, at the same time exhibiting
a sixshooter. Mr. Jefferson
handed him $1.50 saying, that was
all ho had. The robber then said:
"That's too thin, hold up yur
hands," andprcscntinga sixshooter
to Mr. Jefferson's forehead. It is
needless to say that his hands
went up. Tho robber then reached
in his pocket and taking his
pocketbook, keys and tobacco,
motioned him to move on up the
track, at tho same timo going up
toward the Union ditch himself.
Mr. Jefferson immediately alarmed
thoso of tho citizens who had
not retired and a posse scoured
tho town from Jacobson's cornor
to Blake's mill, but as it was dark
could find no one.
It is pretty generally believed
there were two persons mixecla8'
up m the affair, and a search warrant
was issued on Friday but iff
did not bring any of tho stolen
property to light. It is believed
some arrests will be mado shortly
in
