Mrs. Mary Downs came up Sunday from Norfolk to see her mother. There will be a lawn party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Callis on July 6, for the benefit of the Methodist Orphanage. Mrs. W. E. Forrest and chil? dren were the guests of XV. B. Diggs July 4th. Miss Blanche Hudgins was the guest of little Christine Diggs on Tuesday last. The people of Diggs are look? ing forward to Wednesday night and expect to hear something tine from Mr. Boyd Sears. The}' are all Sears people down here. While we sympathise with these parents in their losses, we extend a large share to Mr. Bunch, as this makes the fourth infant in succession he has losfck Mr?. Jas. F. Foster, we are glad to say, is much improved from her protracted illness. Mrs. G. W, Trimyer is quite ill at present. Dr. James Sr. had a narrow es? cape from drowning. He fell from Philpotts Wharf, but clung to a post until his cries were heard and he was rescued. The entertainment at Mobjack was in every way a success, the large number of persons present all seeming to have a good time. About $58 was realized. ?Vet. SUSANS. Mis. Eugene Ransome, while stepping from a table upon which she was standing to hang a pic? ture upon the wall, lost her bal? ance and fell to the floor, sprain? ing her knee badly. Robert Miller, upon whom an operation was performed some time ago, came home last Satur? day. He is improving fast. A colored boy who worked for Dr. Rutherford, while crossing a creek, fell overboard and drown? ed before help could reach him. his body being recovered the same day.
