COPPER PBODTJCTIOK
The growth of copper production in
the century has been very rapid being
in the first decade 91000 tons in the
fifth 291000 tons and in the tenth dec
ade which ends with 1900 8643000
tons of which 1963000 tons is sup
plied by North America the large pro
portion of this being from the United
States The rapid extension of the
railroad system of Mexico is resulting
in the opening of some very extensive
copper mines in that country the rich
ness of the ores which as a rule carry
gold and silver together with the
abundance of very cheap labor and the
climatic advantages will tend to great
ly increase the North American pro
duction One of the largest copper
mining enterprises in the world is now
being started by the Rothschilds who
have invested o 000000 therein This
great property is in the State of Mich
oacan and in the same mineral belt as
are the El Progreso Mines that are ad
vertised in this issue The mainspring
of the wonderful increase of the worlds
production of copper is of course the
great profit that results from miniug it
and at the present time no better in
vestment is offered than the stock of a
good copper mining company in the in
itial stages and before a dividend is
paid 22 1
