He is a good sturdy fellow who makes friends wherever he goes and for years has been travel ing up and down this road as a traveling salesman but is now engaged in farming and Real Estate business at Scotts Bluff. Mr. Shumway was here about a month ago and stopped a couple of days to renew acquaintances and visit with old friends. We enjoyed a pleasant visit with him and assure our readers that he is a capable manand worthy of our confidence. He has defined his position and you will find him ever ready to take his stand in behalf of the people. The sale of condemned buildings at Fort Niobrara last Saturday was attended by about 100 to 150 people who came from the sur rounding country and towns for 50 or 60 miles. Though there were perhaps not nearly so many people as would have been there had the weather been fair , those who were there seemed to have a lot of money to spend and didn't seem to want to take it home with them , consequently the prices ranged high. Many of the old buildings with floors badly worn sold at a fair price for the lumber they contained without considering the labor of wrecking the building taking out the nails , sorting the lumber and hauling away. There were 59 buildings sold , many of them very old and the lumber un fit for use excepting shedding for cattle or a similar purpose. There were some bargains however and if the winter permits wrecking buildings and constant work those who bought liberally of good buildings or those containing considerable of dimension timbers will find a handsome profit or at least their money's worth.
