WILL HE BOLT THE CONVENTIOH? Platt Displeased With the Na? tional Committee. H.e Say* the Committee is Using IM Power to Farther the Interests of McKinley. If tbe Platt Delegation From New Fork Are Thrown Oat He Will Bolt. Banna Sere Be Is Not Worried over the Situation. St. Louis, Mo., June 12 ?To-day there was In circulation a report that ThomsB C. Platt has deolared his inten? tion of bolting or walking out of the convention if the six contestants from New York should bo seated. It Is learned from members of the national committee that In all probabil? ity the Blx Platt men will be thrown out and the other men placed on the tem? porary roll. The report of what Platt had said was reported to Mr. Hanna to? day and he declined to discuss the mat? ter In any way. "I shall not get excited over this even nOV. THOMAS COLLIER PLATT. it Mr. Platt Bald It," Mr. Hanna re? marked, and when assured thai Platt had made tbe remark, he was not dis? turbed. Members of the national oommlttee think tbe talk of a New York bolt is wholly for the purpose of the lnfluenoe it may have on the decision of contests jet to be decided. To an Associated Press reporter to? day Mr. Platt said that he had not spo? ken particularly of tbe New York del? egates which wore contested, but upon the wholu proceeding in the committee; "they are riding rough shod over every? thing." "The question of a man's title to a seat Is not considered on its merits, but as to his position on Presidential candi? dates. Mr. Hahn, of the oommlttee from Ohio, has deolared that the only ques? tion In these contests Is whether or not the man Is for McKinley and that line of policy Is what New York objects to." Mr. Platt reiterated that he has con? tinuously deolared that Mr. Morton's name would be presented and voted for. When aBked what he had to say about Mr. Manley's manifesto he said he did not think it had mado any appreciable difference In the situation. He was very sorry that Mr. Manley had made the statement, and was at a lost to explain it, except that the Maine committeeman must have become demoralized when there was no neces? sity for lt. Mr. Platt has received a dispatch from Mr. Hoed, who says that Mr. Manloy's utterance was wholly un? authorized and expressed his sstonlsh ment that Manley had taken Buch a oourse. LOUIS, Mo., June 12.?The move? ments ot the men who are opposed to McKinley have been very quiet, but It is understood that since the arrival of Mr. Quay to-day there has been a con? ference of men representing the different candidates. Those present were Platt, for Mr. Morton; Quay, for himself; Henderson, for Mr. Allison, and an Eastern man, representing Mr. Reed. It was understood that the conference was not with any hope of defeating the nomination of McKinley, because Mr. Quay and Mr. Manleyhave already con? ceded the nomination of the Ohio man on the first ballot. It was proposed to prepare a platform on the money question which was to be Insisted upon at all hazards and to give It to tbe McKinley men as one of the demands of the opposition. A Forecast of What the Republican Financial Flank Will He-WIU Not Declare For a Single Oolil Standard. Foitible That Thli May Meet the Demand* of the Eastern Delegate* McKinley Delegate* Seated. St. Louis, June 13.?It is generally believed, to-night that the declaration In favor of the gold standard In the Re* publican platform will bo very emphatic and unequivocal. When the men from the East reach St. Louis they will find that the close friends of Major MoKln ley are ready to offer them a financial plank that they can agree upon with out hesitancy. Several drafts of a platform have been prepared and It Is believed now that a form has beon secured wblch will be satisfactory. It will declare against the free coinage of silver unless it should bo brought about by interna? tional agreement. No ratio is men? tioned and In this respect it Is more acceptable to tho gold men. It will also declare that the Republ.csns are against tho debasement of tbo currency and Is therefore In favor of the present gold standard. The Republican party will be given credit for having brought about the resumption act, wblch has also main? tained every dollar at a parity, whether coin or paper, and that tho standard of money should be. as it always been has and is now, equal to that of the most enlightened nations of the world. Those declarations embody the wishes of the friends of Major McKinley and the men whoaro now here approve them. If the resolution should be changed It will be by the committee on resolutions or the convention Itself, but this Is not likely, because It contains ail that is asked for except by the most extreme gold men who want a straight single gold standard declaration and nothing more. There is some opposition to the reference.to an International agreement, but those who desire that language In? serted In :tho resolution say that tbe party should not place itself in opposi? tion to tho free coinage of silver under an International agreement if such an arrangement could be made, but the party is not to be pledged to bring about such an agreement which is a conten? tion of some of the delegates. It is believed by those who have ex? amined the proposed flnanolal resolution that It will meet every demand that can be made by the Eastern men and that . t will bo Incorporated Into tbe platform when adopted. The Committee In Session. The national oommlttee was rather slow in getting together to day. The Eighth Virginia district contest was withdrawn and Shumate and Wale were declared entitled to seats. They are for McKinley. James P. liurke, of Pitttburg, Pa,, was eleoted official reporter of the pro? ceedings for the convention. In the Seventh Mississippi dlstrlot McKinley delegates were sealed. In tho Third Alabama district seats were awarded the McKinley delegates. In the Louisiana contests twelve McKinley and four Roed delegates were seated. The Third district of Virginia was then taken up. The contestants were not present and Eiward Waddill, Jr., and C W. Harris (MoKlniey men) were seated without argument.
