Byerley is slowly recovering from his recent severe sickness. Woodard Bros, are buildinj; several houses on Shiawassee street. Walker Merell has resumed his place as engineer nt the Mattress Factory. The average small boy may now lie found "taking in" Forepaugh's bills. James Allen, of Chesaning, has been visiting friends in the city this week. Mr. Ira Merell has been very sick for several days but is again able to be out. Mcyrelles' 21st Commandry will give a concert at C'olwell Hall, Feuton, on the 23d. On Monday last, H. L. Lewis shipped a car load of oats to a commission house in Saginaw. Forepaugh's advertising car at the J. & L. depot, was visited by a large number of people on Sunday. Bruce Buckminster left Monday evening for Walnut, Iowa. He expects to be gOM about two months. B. O. Williams was on the lick Hat Saturday and hunday but is now oat around once more. II. Brooks in West Owosso, was burglarized on Saturday night, and about a dozen dollars in money obtained. At the Bazar last week the young Ladies of the Guild cleared $175. This was certainly a result of which they have reason to be proud. Memorial services in honor of the late Judge Gould will be held in the Congre gational church next Sabbath morning. Sermon by the Pastor. Do not forget that Tuesday May 80th is Decoration day, and that no effort should be spared to make the domonstra -tlon in this city a success. Hon. C. Y. On Monday evening Mr. Henry Frow ley, of Middlebury township, was thrown from his wagon by his team running away, breaking his right leg near the ankle. Read the card of H. B. Peterson, to be found on the first page. Mr. Peterson is so well known hereabouts, that for us to say anything with regard to his skill as a dentist, would be useless. The Mill Animal meeting of the Michi gan society of Homeopathists, was held on Tuesday and Weduesday of this week at Grand Rapids. Dr. F. B. Smith, of this city was 'in attendance. Amid the busy hum of machinery we must not forget the Handle Factory which manufacture 1,000 cords of ash and hick ory per year Into handles. These handles are shipped to all points of the United States, and many are sent to Kurope. The Ladiea Aid Society will furnish dinner on Saturday for Messrs. Williams A Hartshorn's friends who participate in tho free delivery. There will, also, be ample room and a first class dinner for all who may favor the Aid 8ociety with their patronage. As we go to press we learn that Mr. John Rood, of Bennington, ugod 04 years, died at the n side nee of his son Allen Rood, on Thursday morning altout two o'clock. He was in usual health the pre ceding day, ane ate a hearty dinner, but did not want any supper, and going to bed passed peacefully away, without a word or any indication of pain, dying purely from old aw. There were 181 arrivals at the Nationa Hotel, of persons not residents of Owosso, for the week ending May 18th. Those bronze metalic chairs' and set tees which are placed in front of the Na tional are inviting these warm afternoons. Mr. Patterson is putting down a new sidewalk in front of the National Hotel. It will be a decidedly valuable improve ment. Mrs. Geo. M. Dewey, wife of Hon. Geo. Jtf. Dewey of Flint, attended the funeral services of Mr. John Todd, in this city, on Thursday. The card of the Messrs. Turner, Law yers, and Solicitors in Chancery appears iu our curd column to-day. It should have the attention of those seeking legal advice. The Band Concert this evening should he attended by all our readers. The band is a credit and an honor to the city, and it is our duty to encourage and support them. L White Brothers, shipped 40 bedroom suits to the samu House it being a popular summer resort. If any of our readers chance to sail that way, they will find good resting places. The last number of the Breeders Gazette, published at Chicago, had us a frontispiece a sketch of the famous painting, "The Horse Fair." It is one of the finest live stock pictures we have ever seen. The State Board of Heulth have just issued circular No. 54, relative to the 'Prevention of Small-Pox," and No. 50 relative to "The work of Health olliccrs, two very important documents, that merit and should receive the prompt at tention of all local Boardi of Health, and the public generally. The account of S. F. Smith, printed in the Council proceedings of last week, should have read $80.00 instead of $55.00. The error was duo to the fact that the editor was sick and unable to be in the city, and his work devolved upon the publisher, and in the hurry to get to press the proof! were not read by copy. The following gentlemen are erecting residences in the several wards: J I). Evans, on the corner of Water and Williams St8.; Arthur McIIardy, corner of Park and Goodhue, Mr. Miller, on Wash ington street, north; Warren Woodard, corner of Michigan Ave. and Clinton St.; Wellington White, on Main street, west. The concert given by Donavin's famous Tennesseeans at Opera Hall on Monday evening was listened to by a large and at tentive audience. To say that this com pany is one of the best of the many colored troupes that travel, Is only saying what is just and fair to them. They should be greeted by a full house in every town and city in which they give an en tertainment. The Ann Arbor'High School is to have a competitive elocution exhibition in that citv June 9th. The class has 13li students from which the speakers, 10 in number, were chosen according to class standing and their rank In the Friday exhibitions. Among the names we notice that of Jesse II. Shattuck, of this city. Three prizes of $20, $15 and ilO will be awarded to those standing highest in the exhibition. The first meeting of the "Northwestern Summer Institute," will be held at Petos kev. Mich., commencing July 12th and closing on the 16th of August. The de sign of this institute is to instruction iu language, literature and science. Among the members of the Faculty are: Alfred Henneuuin, W. H. Payne, 0. H. Stowell, J. B. Steere, Louisa R. Stowell and C. M Gayfer. of the Michigan University. August Lodeman and Lewis McLouth, of the State Norman. I). M. Flsk, of Hillsdbic. This list of names gives assurance that the institute will be con ducted in a business-like manner and will doubtless be a success and become a per manent affair.
